I just saw an HBO promo for some Chavez-Martinez pre-fight special that will air on Sept 11th.

It simply showed a still pic of both fighters' heads, left & right.

Jr looked very good, but the pic of Sergio was perhaps the most unflattering shot of him I've ever seen! It's pretty hard to find a bad pic Maravilla, (no homo, note the six honeys in my avatar :smooch ) but someone at HBO managed to do it.

I'm thinking that just this HAD to be on purpose. Need I explain why this might be?

Unbelievable. Sergio's gonna' be fighting Chavez, the ref, the judges, and the HBO nut-huggers, all on the same night.

Even in the preview of 24/7 they showed Sergio talking about himself being more tired from pushing himself so hard. The future and the $ lies with Chavez Jr. and they are trying to sell and build him up. Martinez wanted this for a long time and now its here. And it will be over before he knows it :yep

The whole point of the build up is trying to make Martinez the villain. This is nothing new, HBO does this all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if Ken Hershman himself talked to Sergio and his manager about this and told him to embrace the role.

    Hero vs. Hero never sells.

Hero with a country behind him vs. Villain always sells.

You could be right. I think this explains some of Mayweather's antics, trying to be the bad guy vs "Saint Pac."

Sergio isn't the villan... he say's it as he see's it; and most boxing fans agree with his views on JCC Jr. I for one do.

Chavez seems more evil than Sergio, with that kooky grin and crazy talk, while Sergio just looks clever and experienced, knowing exactly what is going to happen.

No the hero villain theory makes most sense with JCCjr massive mexican following in the states. easier to sell the mexican rather than the argentine.

How could sergio be painted as the villan ? He runs anti bullying campaigns and charities for abused woman while chavez is the suspected drugs cheat

That's exactly the same position Mayweather was in when he fought De La Hoya, and he won. If Sergio thinks he's better than Floyd, then certainly he can do the same against Chavez, who is not as good as Oscar De La Hoya.
