The Puerto Rico vs Mexico rivalary alone is enough to warrent a show !

From a business stand point this just doesn't make sense to me? Especially if you take into account that this is an HBO PPV fight. The smart business move would be to at least do a countdown for the fight. Even if you didn't want to go all out and take a financial risk (in other words be cheap) and not do a 24/7 series. Just to bring in the casual boxing fan that doesn't know about this potential great fight. As some have already stated and pointed out. The die hard boxing fan is already salvating to watch these 2 fighters get intot the ring on July 26, but if you really want to make it a financial success outside the ring. Why wouldn't you want to draw in the casual fan by producing a successful 30min Countdown? I mean really it's 30 ****ing Minutes HBO! :patsch :? :fire

Tito, you can read it on Dan Rafael's blog on ESPN.com, or in Steve Kim's article on maxboxing.com today- its at the end of his article in his flurries section.

I understand Cotto doesn't have great attraction appeal, cause if he did his fight with Gomez would have done way better than just 1.1 million viewers and would not have been rated the lowest WCB boxing telecast ever. I think maybe Cotto-Margarito not having a countdown special might somehow have something to do with Cotto and Margo's inability to be a big attraction. But even with that I think a countdown special would do him and Margarito well. It would sell the fight better and make them bigger names even after the fight win or lose. Looks like Cotto's numbers aren't anytime soon gonna be as big as Floyd's, therefore Floyd isn't gonna look at him.

Why make a 24/7? Both of those mutha****as can't speak English (my apologoies to Cotto). Subtitlling just ain't the same.

Not a 24/7 special, a half hour coutdown special like they do with almost all the other big fights.

Cotto and Margarito aren't really those kind of fighters.

Don't promote Cotto vs Margo, and it will do **** #'s.

Then, justify Floyd and Oscar's decision not to fight him based on good business. Instead, they should go against eachother, its "better for boxing."

Then, let Floyd and Oscar do their thing again, and let Hatton and Floyd do their thing agaain. They can keep doing this all day, because hey the general public doesn't know anything about this sport anyway.

Floyd gets paid, Oscar gets paid, some suits at HBO get paid, and you get ****ed. Remember that next time you spout off some dumb pop culture saying like "if it doesn't make dollars it doesn't make sense."

For those of you saying this doesn't make good business sense, you are both correct and incorrect.

Correct in stating that HBO takes a loss on this particular card.

Incorrect in that by taking a hit on this card, the path towards a few cards that will really make money becomes wide open.

If fewer people see this card, and it doesn't prove lucrative, it becomes that much easier to point to the two rematches that nobody on ESB wants to see, but that the public would surely order.

I was looking forward to seeing the countdown too.. I mean for **** sakes, they had a DLH-Forbes countdown.. I mean they probably had that because of DLH, but still, Cotto vs Margo.. An expected huge fight, possibly a candidate for FOTY, and they aren't even doin' a countdown? I don't care if they don't speak english, I still want to see it..

They had a countdown for Pavlik/Taylor II and that did not, nor was it expected to, do good business. This does not make any sense. It's very rare that HBO does not do a countdown for any PPV they air or for some of their bigger WCB events (DLH/Forbes, Hopkins/Calzaghe). Lampley and co. have already discussed what a huge matchup this is. Hopefully they reconsider.

Was Jones Trinidad those kind of fighters ?

    Hopkins Calzaghe ?

I think these 2 are worthy of a countdown show !

Obviously they wanna promote this fight very little so it doesnt **** up there plans for people to pay 65 dollars for Fraud-DLH 2. If they heavily promote this awesome fight just 2 months before they probablly think it will cut into the revenue they can make off Fraud-DLH 2. I say 65 cause it was 60 last year watch how they occasionally add 5 bucks on to PPVs HBOs been doing in ever since ive start ordering UFC and WWE as well I remember when they all cost 35 dollars without tax then cable companies started adding on taxes to PPVs while UFC,WWE,HBO upped the prices 5 dollars yearly.

No way I'm buying the Mayweather/DLH ppv again.. It wasn't even worth $60 last year in my eyes and upping the price is definitely making sure I don't buy the ppv.. I vow to myself I will not. I'll probably just be getting the Cotto/Margo & Pac/Diaz ppv this year.. I also think I wasted $30 on that Mijares ppv.. But back to the topic.. I love HBO, but this sucks..
