Oh yeah tell me was Berto worth $1.2 Million he made against Urango in a snoozer, or how about the $1 Million in lackluster showings against Stevie Forbes or Miguel Angel Rodriguez.. Berto had alot of soft touches for $1 million plus and he was one of the nig reason HBO stop doing business with AL Haymon because they were losing money overpaying for mismatches with no return..
Maybe you should get in the ring and fight Berto's opponents instead. Maybe you'll get two FOTY awards instead of two because Berto was boring.
This is a thread form 6 years ago. HBO doesn't even broadcast boxing anymore. Surely they would earn a lot more nowadays.
Still ridiculous. None have enjoyed a seven-figure purse yet. Smaller guys, yes, but p4p talent and exciting styles.
This thread reminds me of the arguments there would be over HBOs budgeting. How they would throw stupid money at ridiculous showcase fights... and when people would ask wtf theyre doing, youd have smartasses on here talking about 'oh you know more than the executives at HBO now? Pretty sure they know more than you about what theyre doing..." Turns out that, no... they were making as stupid of moves as it appeared and they left the sport at least in part for their inability to budget properly. .... As for the topic of this thread... just another example of their screw ups. As someone else said, they could have easily made this a lead in to a ppv and given them a bit more than what they were offering.
Berto was busy getting, not making it up, $1.1 mil to fight Freddy Hernandez (I think that was the fella he KO'd in 1).
