HBO hands down. They have the biggest fights. I have a lot of respect for showtime though because thats where we see most of our prospects start off.

HBO have more fights and usually the bigger profile ones.

But Showtime pretty consistently has fights I want to see but just not enough of them. And also put on better overall cards.

I have always liked HBO better but they need to let the younger fighters have their day. Showtime is willing to put the younger fighters in the spotlight.

Latley I like showtime better. They have the fights that I want to see today wheras HBO just has the names and the fights I would have wanted to see 5 years ago. Any time that HBO does get a good fight that I really want to see they end up charging for it.

Over the last 3 years, both networks have delivered great fights. Although the talent pool hasn't been the greatest overall, there have been better matchups and more title fights made over the past 3 years than in any other era in recent boxing history.

With that said, I think the deciding factor for me would be the difference in commentary. i prefer the commentary team of HBO; I can't stand listening to Al Bernstein and Steve Farhood.

A lot of fight fans accuse the HBO team of pulling out the pom poms, but Showtime is no better. I realize that HBO have contracts with fighters and Showtime doesn't, but Al and Steve both have personal favorites that keep them from contributing to the fight in an unbiased manner. It drives me insane. Al will watch a fight for 3 rounds and will take an absolute position on the fight. The first 3 rounds will curb his opinion of the entire fight.

Is this an accurate observation or do I just dislike the man?

You just dislike the man. There is no way that anyone can say that the showtime team is even close to being as biased as the HBO team. Lampley literally cried when Cotto lost. I forget which fight it was that I saw that Manny Steward's guy lost and he was so mad that he could barley stand still. The way that they cheerlead in every fight in pathetic. **** in the Cotto vs Margarito fight even as cotto was getting knocked out Lampley kept saying that Margarito was ineffective and Cotto was putting on a boxing clinic.

You could be right...I just dislike the man. I couldn't tell if Lamps was choked up after the Cotto fight for the fact that his man lost or if it were due to the way Cotto's wife reacted. It was pretty disturbing to watch.

In turn, I think you're going a little overboard with the cheerleading of HBO. The Cotto fight commentary wasn't that bad...they were giving Margarito the credit he deserved during and after the fight. If anything, I think Manny is a little to sobering. Sometmes he ruins the drama of the fight by telling it like it is. Case in point, the Mayorga/De la hoya fight.

HBO Puts on a more "upscale" production, but tend to pull more strings behind the scenes, which could be considered whats "bad" about the sport.

I really don't care to be honest. I'd watch Nicoloden if they were punching eachother in the face.
