HBO pay $1,100,000 to Andre Berto for Freddy Hernandez fight???

Good to see Martinez is getting paid well. I'm not convinced Berto is worth that much though.

 

You cant knock a mans hustle, its not a case of him getting to much its the other fighters you have mentioned arent getting enough.

If you was berto would you say to them i dont deserve this much? pay me less!

 

I know they're paying $1.25m for the fight itself but I'm not sure how the split is. Berto must be getting $1m at least, it's not as if Hernandez is a big name.

 

I'll never get why there's any fuss about berto. He's as average as they come.

It's an insane amount of money for a very, very average fight. I also don't quite see what the hype with Berto is either tbh.

Hugely overpayed and this is causing HBO problems because trying to get guys like Berto take fights against more dangerous opponents such as Mosley is a bloody pain because he feels he is worth more then his usual pay and paying the sums they do takes a huge clump out of their budget. They could have gotten at least 1 more half decent fight if they paid what they should ($700,000 tops).

 

Disgraceful. What has Berto done to command such a fee? no wonder he's happy to tread along in his career, not step up and get up to some of the antics he does. What must others fighters, who have achieved much more be thinking, when HBO lowballs them. Why is HBO doing this? I suspect it has something to do with Al Hamon (the same reason he got a gift in the form of a green strap). HBO are acting too much like promoters, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have head honchos who knew nothing about boxing.

Hernandez can pop but he is slow his has wins over chop chop, Anchondo .This is just HBO being stubborn and refusing to give up on the notion that Berto (a guy that they dubbed a long time ago to be the next big thing) is a big draw and the future of the sport. The fact is he hasn't panned out the way they thought he would. However since he still is undefeated, while all the other young fighters they dubbed "the future of boxing" (ie. Ortiz, Dawson, Angulo, Arreola) have all lost, they are backing Berto at all costs
