I hope not. Was looking forward to the rematch.

Kovalev was picking up steam in the first fight (I had him ahead, as did many others), he just got caught and never recovered.

Considering EA isn’t exactly known as a big puncher, I was shocked he KO’d Kov like that. I would be awestruck if he did it AGAIN.

I didn’t need a rematch but if Kov exercises his option, HBO should pick it up. It was a good fight.

Alvarez has not so much power on his regular shots, but when he settles down and gets timing he always lands a 1-2 combo.

he was picking up steam but landed single digits other than the 4th round. he was also worker way harder than alvarez just to win a close round I knew going into round 7 the final 6 rounds would be 4-2 alvarez. it turns out if that happened it would have been a MD win for Kovalev.

    So a pretty exciting MD isn’t rematch-worthy?

Also, which two rounds did you know Kov was going to win?

"Update: Kathy Duva confirmed to Boxingtalk that HBO has declined to pick up the bout, while retaining its right to match any offer made by another party."

So, it's true, wow. I can't get their logic... They don't want it, but would like to retain their right to match an offer made by other party? Like if Eddie bids a lot for this fight, they want to bid a lot as well..? :scared1:lol:

I hope DAZN does show it. I'm disappointed in HBO for not being willing to.

problem is I think 2-3 years ago Kovalev stops him within 4. I thought Kovalev might win the 7th and make another round close he ran out of steam completely and Alvarez is a second half fighter.

Kovalev might be exclusive to HBO that was after all his excuse for pulling out of the Stevenson purse bid.

First to pop into mind. It's just that they appeared twice in quick succession, lost the second fight and were not heard from again.

Yeah I understand your point there but I believe distancing themselves from them 2 was sensible.

Because they aren’t good enough to capture the imagination of a casual fan or deliver high quality championship boxing for a number of years.

HBO’s roster is depleted so it has to be the best available talent they cover.

I don’t disagree that the Krusher of yesteryear stops him relatively easily.

But what I’m discussing is whether the rematch should be picked up by HBO. It was an entertaining fight that ended rather shockingly and the rematch would probably be a pick ‘em.

I had Kov up, and nobody knows how the scorecards would have wound up had it gone the distance. So if Kov wants to do it again, I would watch.

    Isn’t Alvarez PBC?

PBC just signed a 3-year deal with Showtime. HBO backing out because they know they can’t get this fight anyway.
