You can't say it's an awful business decision. Even though I favored Kovalev to win, what if he took the Stevenson fight and Stevenson goes all out on him and knocks him out in round 1 ? Then Kovalev's career might be over, 4 years earlier.

HBO didn't want to show Pacquiao vs Horn and they lost the whole Top Rank stable. Now they don't want to show Kovalev vs Alvarez 2 ? Alvarez team said after the first fight HBO approached them to be on the network again. They are being shitty.

The reason came in that the contract for the rematch was for way too much money. What I'm wondering is if they come to an agreement for a cheaper price... does that mean Alvarez makes less money, sounds like the contract would be void if they had to alter the deal to have it on tv and have alvarez to say yes or no.

I just looked into this. As of now despite what ESPN said the rematch still hasn't been officially excersized. Kovalev teams plans to excersize but they have until October 4th to do so. It might just be paper work left only.

As for terms of the contract they have to pay Alvarez an alaready agreed upon amount of money and have to follow everything. On that Contract it might even say it has to be on HBO I don't know those details. in order for it to be on ESPN or DAZN or Showtime. They'd have to pay Alvarez the same or slightly higher than in the first Kovalev fight. that's not to say, they can't work out a different contract on the side and have team Alvarez agree. but for the sake of the automatic rematch a lot has to get down by October 4th.

Quebec media seems to think the fight will happen and on HBO. the hiccup is location more than anything. HBO wants to do Quebec as it would make the most money there.

HBO doesn’t collect money from the gate. They aren’t promoters. They pay a fee to carry the fight.

They might want Quebec because they like the location, gives it an international flair, or think it will be a better venue to build Alvarez into a future attraction but they don’t make money from ticket sales.

Alvarez is with PBC, which if HBO doesn't accept the offer there's a decent chance, but I could see Duva refusing to work with Haymon.
