Ike versus PW might be an attractive matchup to some, but seeing as how inactive Quartey has been, I doubt he would be ready for a fight in November. Phillips at least brings a title to the table.

Besides, you can bet if Williams fought Ike there would be plenty of detrators saying he was fighting an old man who hadn't fought in over a year. I can't see why HBO would be more attracted to that match up anyway.

I would love to see Williams fight Verno Phillips, but if that match can't be made maybe he can fight another 154 pounder like Travis Simms or maybe even Cory Spinks who got robbed against Verno Phillips in the first place.

Maybe Clottey stepped up to the plate but Pavlik turned down the fight to go after bigger fights which is respectable.:deal

Why are there so many haters on this forum. Paul Williams probably can't secure a fight with a big name welterweight, who do you think would fight him. Cotto, Margarito, or even someone like Cintron or Mosley. I bet none of these guys would take the fight, so he picks a Title Holder at Jr Middle and you still *****.

Don't even take into the account that he fought less than a month ago! While your boy Maragartio fights 2 times a year. I guess Golden Johnson was a real test, much better then Verno Phillips.

Williams against Verno would be good.. Phillips, dont sleep on him... Quartey did and almost paid the price late in the fight... Could end up being somewhat like Phillips/Ouma... If Williams were to stop Verno, his stock would rise a lot~!!

He called out Margarito with a career high payday and was turned down, so yes he DID call out the best but the best in the division doesn't believe in avenging LOSSES. Shane Mosley coming off a struggle against Ricardo Mayorga is cherry picking, wake the **** up.

I don't think this is on Paul Williams. This is on his epic fail of a promoter, who can't get him a SOMEWHAT decent challenge at 147? For ****s sake man.

Verno Phillips at 154 is a small challenge but the way I see it, Williams should clean him out easily. He shouldn't have beat Spinks...so I fail to see how he'll beat Williams.

No one else available is the issue I think.

Clottey is already booked for Williams early next year, Williams wants a fight in November to stay active.

    Cintron is booked for Cotto.

Margarito turns down a career high payday and goes for Mosley instead to secure that a rematch with Cotto won't get ruined as it nearly did the first time he fought Williams.

    Mosley booked with Margarito.

Cotto booked with Cintron then Margarito after it.

Who else is there?, Williams really has no other choice and he wants to stay active so it's all good.
