Maybe GBP initially thought it would do 1.2 million buys, so to further the promotion, they threw out outlandish claims in order to drive the hype. If that resulted in even 100k additional buys, I wouldn't think they'd be disappointed, though. It's really hard to say for sure.

    It won't.

Economy and culture can't support over 2 million buys.

It won't happen again anytime soon.

Very disappointing numbers based upon the amount of promotion put into the fight and the expectations created for it by Golden Boy and Mayweather.

Only doing 175K more buys than Pacquiao-Cotto given all the factors is a big, big letdown.

Credit to GBP and Mayweather's camp, though, for rolling out a full after-the-fact spin campaign about how good the fight did. It's funny to watch, and shows the "clean up the dog mess, fast!" nature of this promotional disappointment.

Still, there are enough fools who will buy this spin, as we know.

Manny's celebrating becoming a congressman, and Team Money is playing damage control.

All on the same day. You can't make this stuff up.

2.4 is a gigantic number. If this fight sniffs it, that's still huge.

Predicting the PPV record and falling a million buys short is failure any way you cut it.

I'm sorry if you feel like i'm insulting your idol, i'm not. I'm criticizing GBP for being so stupid.

Mosley is a not a big draw, not bigger than Cotto.

Oscar never broke a million with Mosley and Oscar is considered a bigger draw than Mayweather.

Oscar did a combined total of like 1.55

Oscar in TWO fights with Mosley did only 150k more.

If you take out what Shcaefer predicted with his 3 million, you wouldn't be calling this a let down.

Plus, just because he said it, doesn't mean they spent the money you think they did on promotion.

DLH-Mayweather was promoted far more than this fight.

Good numbers, and like what I said, Floyd made his $40M. But probably not the numbers GBP was hoping for. In any event, promoters wanted to make more, but certainly not in this one. Good for Floyd. :good

If you think anyone bought that **** Shaffer was saying about 3 million buys then I have a bridge in Nevada I want to sell you. He was clearly trying to hype the fight no one including Richard believed that **** but you're too stupid to understand the difference either that or you're an irrational hater. I think a bit of both.

Would be interesting to see a $$$ breakdown of the two fights.

I can tell you this: There was no social networking aspect to the ODLH-PBF fight pitch as there was with Mosley/PBF. Or nothing even close, anyways.

GBP spent cash to get "Mayweather" and other fight-related terms trending on Twitter the night before the bout. That can't be cheap. That's just one aspect of how much was put into this match.

    Record-breaking. 3-4 million sales. Who R U Picking?

    Fail.

Truth hurts sometimes, but it's still the truth.
