After watching the replay of Martinez/Williams in HBO Latino and from a spanish station in Argentina, HBO could have put more emotion into calling the fight and the knockout. I kept imagining what it would sound like if Gus Johnson was calling the fight. "OH MY GGAAAAAAAAWWWWDDDD. ITS OOOOOVVEEEEERRR!"
Emanual Steward is usually so good at commentating, but he was not great last night. He thought Williams was doing better just because he was aggresive, ignoring the big punches Martinez was landing. And Kellerman. Oh geez. He is terrible.
Bob Sheridan.. "OHHHHHH MAAAAA GAWDDDDDDD THISS ISSSSS UNBELIIEVVABLEEEEE....I CAN''T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAWWWWWWWWWWW" This dude was excited during Adamek/Grant.
They were **** last night. Martinez was firing his crushing left continuously in the 2nd round, and we're being told Williams is piling the pressure and beginning to land the harder shots? :huh And their (Kellerman and Steward) reaction to the knockout was like a "that's not what we wanted to happen".
Yeah, Steward, in particular, was absolutely horrible. Despite the fact that Martinez was landing the cleaner and harder shots, the old fool kept on saying that the fight looked to be going Williams way. Following that, when the KO came, he starts talking about how it only takes one punch to finish it in boxing, as if Martinez was being dominated and just got lucky. As for Kellerman, the guy is a clown at the best of times, but asking Williams why his chin failed him was ridiculous even for him.
Manny thought it was a right and not a left. Then, they all acted as though this was just a lucky shot that 'happens' in boxing, as if anyone could've knocked out PW. No one pointed out the feint with the right and how Martinez looked past Williams to divert his attention, make Williams feel safe, all the while channeling more energy into the left. They reacted like it was some sloppy left hook 4 oz. glove MMA undercard knockout.
