so they spent over 1 mill on the berto v hernandez fight, which no one cared about, but they won't spend 1.5 mill on cotto-vanes? that's ****ed up.

    Arum's such a ****ing baby.

    I've got to admit, I couldn't give a **** about a Cotto-Martirosyan fight. I'm not a mainstream fighters only fan but... who?

Arum just plays it my way or the highway.

By doing this he's forcing HBO into a corner.

Same thing he does where he won't negotiate with anyone other than TR fighters to face Pacquiao. This forces fighters to either leave their current company such as Mosley leaving GBP or join Top Rank if they want any chance of fighting Pacquiao. Just to make Arum more money, he's milking it for all he can.

I'm pretty sure it was 900k. That 900k all didn't go to Berto, but still at the end of the day, HBO spent virtually a million dollars to televise Berto-Hernandez, which is ridiculous.

Even if they don't, it's meaningful and competitive enough to be televised. HBO has televised far, far, far worse.

900,000 for Berto, from that 50,000 for Hernanadez as reported by Steve Kim.

Who cares about Cotto-Mayorga? The reason why HBO rejected the fight was because Mayorga is NOT relevant at any weight.

Ask yourself why is Cotto even fighting a Mayorga? Why not fight Angulo at 154? That is a Mexican vs. Puerto Rican war. Well I will tell you why and most already know. Because Arum is just trying to milk distributors like HBO or Showtime, or you the paying public when he puts on an independent ppv.

He feels he can't afford to have Cotto lose so he tries to make fights that appeal on anything but SUBSTANCE. **** Cotto could fight Paul Williams at 154lb, he could fight Martinez at a catch weight. Like I said he could fight Angulo.

There are people to fight at the weight. I'm sure even Berto would move up briefly to challenge him.....there are just too many good fights to be made.

But Arum makes the Mayorga fight. And you same people who claim to know something about boxing who say the mosley-pac fight is nothing (which is correct), can't see that the Cotto-Mayorga fight is equally nothing?

    Talk about blind.

To stay busy, opposed to remaining inactive for a year headed into a planned rematch with Margarito.

Alfredo Angulo has immigration issues and can't even fight in the US again until he gets his Visa sorted out.

How exactly is Arum milking the networks by going PPV? When a promoter puts on an HBO or Showtime distributed PPV, the money the promoter takes in comes from PPV buys, foreign television rights, ticket sales, etc...opposed to receiving a license fee from HBO or Showtime. HBO and Showtime actually receive money from PPV opposed to shelling it out. The promoter, in this case Top Rank, takes the risk.

Promoters go the PPV route more often than not to keep their stable of fighters active because HBO, Showtime, ESPN2, etc.. are not capable of keeping the entire sport afloat. If promoters didn't put on PPV events like these from time to time, there would be a whole lot of fighters sitting on the shelf for years at a time.

The good thing about PPV is you know what you're paying for ahead of time and have the option to not purchase if don't care for a particular card. You don't have that luxury paying a HBO/Showtime subscription without canceling the network altogether.

Top Rank attempted to make a Martinez-Cotto fight with Lou Dibella, but couldn't reach an agreement..same thing with Berto.

I'm not crazy about Cotto-Mayorga, even as a big Cotto fan, but as long as it's serving as prelude for a Cotto-Margarito rematch or another big fight, then I can understand why it's taking place.

It wasnt to long ago that Mayorga out-boxed Mosley for over 90% of their fight but I think he needs a hard tune up with the likes of Ouma
