Remember the translator they used to have, Torres I think was his name. He used to handle the spanish translations for Tito and some of the other spanish speaking only fighters. When was the last time he's worked a fight? I remember they had a guy once for a Casamayor fight and they pushed him to the side and used their own guy since they "couldn't" understand his "proper" spanish.

I like Jerry Olaya. Dude translates what is said nothing more and nothing less. I believe the guy they had before said things like "That black guy, he hits hard" and "let me put some water on your balls"

    Torres was a terrible translator.
Most of the time he'd was way way off in the translation.

Most of the translators that work for these networks at fights only do an adequate job at best.

The only translator that was class A in every aspect and got the translations down to near the letter worked for Don King promoted fight cards during the 80's and 90's.
It was a woman who worked for Don King that was used to translate for JC Chavez after everyone of his fights.

Now she was a true proffesional translator, that got the translations turned over to a tee.

There is a fat Mexican always hanging around Mexican fighters, don't like him.

He works for Top Rank. He serves as the translator for any Latino Top Rank fighter. Not sure what else his role is.

Olaya is cool. He does a good job. I know some of the guys Torres talked for used to say some long ass explanations and I think he probably couldn't remember everything and just threw his own stuff in, but Olaya does a good job.

And as far as the fat guy with the mustache goes, I always wondered who he was too because I sure don't ever remember ever seeing him talk at all, but he's always there....kind of like those 2 twins that seem to be in the ring during intros.

Olaya is prety good... Torres was absolutely dreadful. Not only would he summarize what fighters said and leave a lot of stuff out, but by the end he was actually making **** up that fighters never even said. Without a doubt the worst translator I've ever seen. Trust me when I tell you English speakers that HBO did you a service by canning that annoying bum.

His name is Ricardo Jimenez. He's a publicist for Top Rank.

I got a question. I noticed that the translator regularly saids, "ballsy". What English word is that?

Ray Torres seemed terrible just based on his pauses, but I loved his personality and voice. Don't blame HBO for dropping him, though.

The new guy seems pretty straightforward. He's definitely not as entertaining as "Pour some water on his balls!"

I thought Torres retired and that it wasn't a matter of HBO dumping him. Didn't he work the Maidana-Morales card this year when Olaya had a family emergency or tragedy to attend to?

I've seen that guy do some great translating work where he prety much translates what a fighter said word for word. Better than Olaya, but I've also heard him sneak some **** talking in there that the fighter himself never said, so you can't fully trust the guy because he might be trying to push his own agenda into the translation.

Not really. If you've even seen him on TV you'd see that he looks more like a fat toad with a mustache.
