I'll take Showtime over Golden Boy Promotions...eh, HBO...any day of the week. I even like the announcers more with Bernstein and Johnson. They're more professional, less biased, and call fights very accurately, whereas Lampley and co. have become cheerleaders. Showtime gives fights for the hardcore boxing fan. And this SMW tournament furthers my point.

Personally, I favor Showtime, I think their analysts are well balanced and fair. They don't come out with some of the vomit inducing cliches that you hear on HBO either. Larry Merchant thinks he's William ****in Shakespeare. Showtime = Consummate professionals.

Flip side, I've kind of come round to Kellerman and Michael Buffer is a legend.

Funny people are talking about GBP killing HBO when the big fights that flopped featured Lou Dibella and Goosen based fighters. I also just want to say that GBP has had two of HBO's best fights this year (JMM-Diaz and Ortiz-Maidana).

I really think they went overbudget potentially over JMM-Floyd...not knowing that the fight really has no way of living up to what they expected fiscally. Stupid move.

Typical overreaction from boxing fans. HBO had an excellent first half to 2009, much better then Showtime which didn't show much boxing since April. You can't blame HBO for Haye-Klit and Marquez-PBF falling apart.

Before the Showtime tournament came about it looked like they had scaled down their boxing coverage. I don't know how HBO managed to blow their budget already, but at least give them a chance to set up the fall schedule. They have had ONE PPV this year so far and much better matchmaking across the board.

Showtime is killing the broadcast game right now, and if the SMW tournament comes off it will be a HUGE blow to HBO. HUGE.
