As far back as I can remember, HBO has dominated boxing and has put Showtime to shame. 2009 seemed to show a big change as far as that goes. The Super Six tournament could be the main reason for the change in 2009, but I believe they have gained momentum overall going into 2010. Who will have the better year and put on the better fights in 2010?
I thought in recent years Showtime has been certainly holding its own..I feel they had the whole quality over quantity thing going for them at various times throughout the last 5 years. It might not have as many high profile fighters but they put a lot of exciting and evenly matched bouts.
other than pay per view both are place to see high level fights but at same time kinda ruin possible fights do to fighter affiliation
HBO has bigger names, Showtime better fights. If HBO get Mayweather vs Pac together, its certainly HBO that'll rule 2010
the super 6 tournament is laying waste to HBO as far as free fights is concerned it will be no contest Sho wins, However factor in HBO and it takes the PPV cake though.
Showtime has been gaining ground. Also, with they introduced their own version of HBO's 24/7 with Fight Camp 360. I think HBO still gets the nod, but Showtime is closing the gap and looking to pass HBO. The next idea for these two programs is a weekly one hour show discussing Boxing. It would be a great idea it would give Boxing a lot more mainstream news (instead of the plain old internet where most of us, if not all of us get our news), I think that is the next step one of these programs (or both) need to take in order to proclaim that they are thee number 1 Boxing network.
Looking at the schedule now, Showtime's clearly getting off to a better 2010, not even close. HBO PPV fights are hardly any better than regular HBO fights in my opinion. HBO desperately needs Mayweather-Pacquiao though, because other than that and Mosley-Berto, they don't have **** lined up.
I like HBO's coverage better, but I prefer Showtime's commentators. When Jimmy Lennon Jr. is working on an HBO fight, is he allowed to say "Iiiiiiit's SHOWTIME!"?
Hbo has such a huge budget that it makes it hard for Showtime to compete. But they always put together quality match ups that are usually entertaining fights.
