I used to think HBO destroyed Sky Sports in its coverage but after watching the Mayweather vs Hatton fight and have seen the coverage of De La Hoya vs Mayweather and Kessler vs Calzaghe (yeh i know it wasnt on sky) But now I am starting tio think Sky are much better. Jim Lampley has all the facts and figures but he doesnt make the fight exciting like Ian Darke does, Lampley doesn't even raise his voice when something big is happening, when Hatton got knocked down you would of though the left hook was a jab that missed if your eyes were closed. He is a fantastic presenter but an awful Commentator. Emanuel Steward just says exactly whats happening, say he new things were going to happen but doesn't make prediction before the fight. Larry Merhant looks like he is about to collapse, just when things are going to get exciting he makes says something and it makes things dull again. He trys to hard to come out with witty remarks, they always bomb. Kellerman is **** as well. Harold Leddermans scoring is atrocious, how could he have given Hatton 3 rounds in that fight. Really and truthuly there is no reason for there to be 3, let alone 4 people in an announce team, They should have someone seperate doing the interviews at least. Ian Darke made Mayweather vs Baldomir exciting and his co commentator Jim Watt is generally spot on with his scoring. He also makes great insight into the fight game as he has acutally boxed unlike any of the HBO team. Also the guys in the studio are always fantastic.
Yeah Ian Darke is a great commentor. Who can forget his commentary of the Lewis/Tyson fight [yt]zgaQCM8PpZ0[/yt]
personally i think that although HBO's broadcast team isn't always amazing, noone comes even close to HBO in terms of boxing coverage. HBO to boxing is like Moses to Jews. :deal
HBO talk too much over their fights as Teddy Atlas does for ESPN and seem to love the sound of their own voices...****** and Adam Smith do a great job for Sky Sports. Listen to Adam Smith's commentary of Diego Corrales win over Jose Luis Castillo...he's practically screaming at the end.
The whole HBO team was aweful during the Mayweather/Hatton fight. They were extremely dull and biased.
Sky commentary is always biased in favour of the Brit. They'd do well to remember that not every Brit supports every British fighter. Jim Watt is terrible. I don't know why they always send him over to Vegas.
hehe, I love Larry too. Lewis is a tool though, I liked Foreman better. He always had something stupid to say.
I like the British commentators. They make fights seem more than fights. Like its an event. HBO commentators are so cheesy. On saturday, 3 of the HBO commentators spent a whole round talking about what type of fluid that Hatton's corner uses in the ring to treat his cuts all while ignoring the action that was happening.
Jesus that does sound dull...they should dump that Harold Lederman guy too what a crown he's sounds like.
The HBO team have seen it all before, and sound like they have seen it all before. The Sky Sports commentary is far more dramatic, which I like. And I also love Ian Darke.
I agree here. He is plainly irritating. I liked Darke-McCrory far better, despite McCrory's faults (which I actually liked).
