I'd rather see Pavlik-AA, JC, Kessler, Miranda 2, you name it over this.

Hopkins is a great fighter and boring as hell to watch anymore.

Pavlik would probably take this but Old Man Hops is cagey as hell.

If this is on ppv then I'll gladly pass, if its on regular Hbo then ok but its still not high on my list of fights I'd like to see get made.

Even though I'm a Brit, I must be one of the only people in the world who thought Hopkins clearly beat Calzaghe. It was close but it should have been unanimous. It was Hopkins's gameplan which controlled and dictated the fight, I thought it was a boxing masterclass to be honest, a perfect example of how to use pure boxing skill to beat a guy who is younger and fresher. Hopkins thwarted Calzaghe brilliantly, Calzaghe never hurt him once. Other than the superb punch that floored Calzaghe, Hopkins landed every single significant punch in the fight, and had Calzaghe hurt at the bell in one of the middle rounds. Calzaghe racked up points purely on the volume of pitter-patter punches he threw, but very few got through. Hopkins bossed it all the way through.

But, despite this, I would HATE to see a Pavlik-Hopkins fight. Why does no-one protect the legends?? This will go the exact same way as it did when Roy Jones fought Tarver and Johnson, and Chavez fought De La Hoya, and Whitaker fought Trinidad, and Sugar Ray Leonard fought Terry Norris, and Ali fought Larry Holmes, and Holmes fought Tyson, and Tyson fought Lewis, and on and on and on...

Pavlik is a far more destructive fighter than Calzaghe (I'm not saying he is necessarily better but he is more direct and more savage), and he will stalk Hopkins and keep firing those straight shots at his defence until B-Hop crumbles. It is not a fate that I think a truly magnificent world champion like Bernard Hopkins deserves. Please don't let it happen!!
(this is also my attitude towards a possible Calzaghe v Roy Jones Jr fight. Bernard Hopkins is at least still capable of competing at world level, Jones is not. One points win over an overweight, underprepared blown-up welterweight is in no way sufficient evidence that he could handle being thrown in against the #2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. If Jones was getting knocked cold by merely decent boxers like Glen Johnson years ago, how the hell could he handle Calzaghe now?! It's insane.)

Of course you would:yep Have you had your daily serving of Mora nut juice yet today?:huh

This is a HUGE LEGACY fight that represents a RARE feat, being the best from 160-175. :good

STFU, this is the best fight/matchup in the middle division's. Of course? Who would really expect someone on your level to grasp that?:-(

    :hi:

Because without a link, I dont see how Vincent Gottschalk knows what the **** HBO wants...

....And I begin to suspect that this is just ANOTHER pointless thread on WHO Pavlik is gonna fight next...whether there is any truth to it whatsoever.

Mr Gottshalk seems to have a strange obsession with the MW division, and nothing else. You can gurantee if he starts a thred it will be something to do with Pavlik, Duddy, Mora or Abraham, and a wild, basless rumour on what their next fight may be.

Calzaghe v Pavlik MUST happen for The Ring super-middleweight belts this Autumn, or if that can't happen then Pavlik v Abraham (if Abraham can beat Miranda of course) at middleweight then Pavlik v Kessler or Froch if, as I expect, he will be ready to move up by then. Pavlik to storm up the P4P ratings over next 18 months!

even tho i am a calazaghe fan, i wouldnt disagree deeply over those who thought hopkins won there encounter... i really wouldnt mind hopkins vs. pavlik, but i'd love to see pavlik face one of the other mw champs first (sturm, AA)...

He seems to like to start threads on a whim. I called him out for a link since he started the thread. Seen none so far.

"Respected" columnist Dan Rafael mentioned it a few times in his June rankings under Pavlik and Hopkins comments.

welcome aboard i felt exactly the same way you did...also a brit...what was your scorecard i scored it 115-112 b-hop with calzaghe winning his rounds on activity alone. I wouldnt call it a masterclass but he displayed superb ring generalship and dictated the whole fight superbly and its subtleties like that which sadly judges arent as swayed by nowadays. He taught joe a thing or two about technique, timing and accuracy

BHop was starting to tire badly in the 10th round against Calzaghe before he took the undeserved break. He will tire against Pavlik and get beat up down the stretch. But I would much rather never see him fight again. So boring.
