HBO wants Pavlik vs Hopkins Oh NO!!!!

Hey daredevil, I scored Calzaghe-Hopkins much the same as you. I find it really strange that 2 men can come 2 fight each other both with a gameplan, 1 guys gameplan so easily defeats the other guy's, and yet everyone seems to think the other guy won. Hopkins came to fight with the strategy of thwarting Calzaghe's attacks and landing clean meaningful blows, and minimising the amount of clean shots he would have to take. Calzaghe came to impress the US audience by outboxing and stylishly defeating Hopkins. Who won that tactical battle then? Calzaghe was the one frustrated and fearful at the end. The fight went exactly as Hopkins wanted it to, I think he thought at the final bell he'd done it again (like he did v Winky) and won a shut-out.

 

I think some of you guys are giving Hopkins a little too much credit and not enough to Calzaghe. (I can't believe i just said that).

Anytime someone fights as cautiously as Hopkins and clinches as much as Hopkins, it will be ugly. Yeah, he knows every trick and is the willy ole coyote but Calzaghe really tried to make it a fight and Hopkins wouldn't let it become one.

Did Calzaghe fight Hopkins' fight? Yeah. But was Hopkins incredibly effective? No. Part of it had to do with stamina issues as his right hand counters and leads seemed to lose their precision as the fight wore on. If Hopkins had the stamina to finish the fight strong, my guess is that he would've landed noticeably more of those flush shots and won a UD. But you also have to give credit to Calzaghe for making Hopkins fight at a pace which made him move for 12 full rounds.

I had it a draw BTW.

 

HBO doesn't give a **** about that. They just want to build it up on hype so they can cash in like a mother f-er.

I think Pavlik wants to knock Hopkins out. Hopkins never gave Pavlik credit for beating Taylor. He said it was the work of God, which of course it was, but you understand where I'm coming from.

Pavlik doesn't like people that run their mouth, but that was a long time ago, and maybe it was forgotten. Either way, this is still a fight that I would buy just to see if Hopkins can contain a young, powerful fighter, at or close to the peak of his career, that has great stamina and isn't undersized in the sense of height or reach, or at least not by a considerable amount.

I honestly see this happening, hopkins is very cagey, a great defensive fighter. WIld old vet that nkows how 2 get it done. Pavlik isnt a swarmer, so Hopkins mayb able 2 pull a UD. I dont think Pavlik will b able 2 land that big str8 right hand. I mean I can also see Paclik winning as well due to the better stamina, and if this fight takes place at 175 I dont kno if Pavlik is gonna have the same pop.
I would pay 2 see it

Hopkins has had it and he's even more boring now than ever. You can thank the Golden Boy for getting HBO behind it. Oscar is milking Hop for all he can get. This fight will be a snoozefest as Hopkins has a way to always make it happen that way. Oscar doesn't care as long as his greedy hands are raking in the bucks. It's Oscars way, money first then fool the public into thinking it will be exciting, a real slugfest.
This fight should never happen. By the way has Oscar signed up Mora yet to be his next opponent? That will happen you know, Oscar taking the weakest of the bunch. No Cotto, no margo. just the B- fighter Mora. Pathetic!

 

I think Hopkins does belong in the pantheon of great middleweights. His wins over Trinidad, De La Hoya, Tarver etc etc were not boring at all. However, fans have to realize when a great's career is on the downward spiral and stop hyping them into fights that will end in a brutal defeat. This has always happened, going back to when Louis was embarrassed by Marciano. A peak Hopkins beats a peak Pavlik, but if the fight happens now it will be a savaging.

 

What do you expect, we have to find someway of getting Slappy Joe out of hiding in order to expose his ass before he runs off and retires. A punishing KO of BHOP would make that slapfest in May pale in comparison. The pressure and clamoring that would result could force this **** to finally have to face Kelly.
