    - If Martinez loose to Chavez jr, then why wouldn't he be replaced with Chavez Jr?

Very true, if Martinez loses, he'll be willing to cash out. If Sergio destroys Chavez he'll be more likely to drop to 154 to get a fight with Cotto and Alvarez than fight GGG for a 1/3 of the money. I'll actually be suprised if we get to see Martinez pass on the tourch to another MW not named Chavez.

Top Rank don't want Chavez jr to participate in tournament.

Because Chavez is worth exponentially more money than the rest of these guys and doesn't need the tournament, not to mention the fact that Top Rank hates tournaments since it requires them to work with other promoters.

    Yeah, good points. **** Arum.

    - But if HBO were to invite Chavez, and he refused, wouldn't that make him look like a chicken? I'd bet Chavez SENIOR would have quite a problem with that.

Also, if Jr somehow beats Maravilla, and then is no in the HBO tourney, wouldn't that make the tourney somewhat meaningless?

    - Or would the winner of the tourney them be automatically slated to fight Chavez?

(Or would Chavez just duck the winner for as long as possible, collecting paid-for decisions and lots of smaller paychecks?)

Wouldn't look good, but blowing off the bantamweight tournament didn't seem to hurt Donaire and Montiel's stock at all. Also whoever wins Chavez/Martinez will be able to use the excuse "I'm already number 1 in the division and shouldn't have to go through a tournament; these guys should be fighting to earn the shot at me," after which of course Chavez will in all likelihood be long gone from the middleweight division (if he isn't already after this next fight).

great idea though i wouldnt be that against Sturm being invited, he lost but he still can be a force in the division

    and Quillin too

maybe 6 with 2 getting a bye to the semis have 2 fight it out then semis then finals

I would have thought Hershman would have learned from his timeless saga of the Stupid 6 tourney.Things just don't always worl out when dealing with differant personalities and promoters.**** happens.

Of course. The best fighting the best. If the performance is great a loss won't hurt a fighter it would only bring his stock up. These guys aint spring chickens I understand there's money to be made like a Geale-Mundine rematch, but what if Mundine causes a shocker? Geale's hardwork of making it to the top and dreams of being the best or dethroning Maravilla or GGG will evaporate. I say go on with the tournament if promoters are willing and Geale-Mundine II can wait afterwards.
