I don't know why but I got the sense that the HBO commentators (Other than Steward) were nit picking at Chad Dawson.

The LHW division has always been a division where you've had one or two upper class fighters in the division full of "ordinary" fighters.

I think that Dawson fought a great fight ... its not like he was going to do something that was never done before (KO Tarver) I don't see anyone anyday KO'ing Tarver. Its just not going to happen ... but Dawson did what he had to do to win the fight and I found it to be entertaining.

So what if his division isn't a great division ... not too many are, even the most celebrated division (the HW's) is in limbo.

The welterweight division is overrated ...

The hottest division right now is the super middleweight division - they are stacked top to bottom with up and comers, established verterans, and legit champions. Its only going to get better once guys like Abraham, Williams, and Pavlik choose to move up.

The junior welterweight division is one of the crumbiest if not the worst division in all of boxing - yet there was a spectacular fight put on between Pac and Hatton.

Dawson shouldn't be picked apart like he hasn't done anything of note ... he's a two-time world champion ... he gave the reigning cruiserweight champion his only loss ... he beat former champions Tarver and Johnson ... **** he's even won minor belts in three division and won them all within a year or so.

He can go down in weight if an option ... and can box his ass off ...

Give this guy a chance and don't look for him to be lights out ... when you know what he's about already.

Pay Hopkins the right amount ... he'll be a better opponent than Calzaghe ... then make it a non PPV fight and make that **** happen.

Build up Williams, Pavlik, and Abraham and lets see what happens from there.

at the beginning they were excited about it. It sounded like they were looking for a chance to give Dawson some props. But Tarver is the wrong fighter for that. Dawson put in a predictably sloppy performance against a cagey veteran. There was not much to be hyped about in that performance. They were just commentating on what they saw.

btw Hopkins put in a real first class performance against Tarver, much better than Dawson.

I just don't get it. A unmotivated Dawson wins by wide UD and they bash him.:-( As if he was suppose to stop a guy who is known for wining rematches has good power with a great chin and never been koed and rarely hurt possibly fighting in his last big fight.:patsch The Tarver that showed up on Saturday would beat almost every fighter at 175 Nowadays it seems as if you don't KO your opponent that you're looked at as inferior. Is this boxing or tough man? You can still be great and not be a KO artist. HBO should be ashamed of themselves for that broadcast.

Wha? There are tons of great fighters at 140 especially when Marquez decides to settle into that division. Not to mention boxing's next golden goose resides at 140 (Victor Ortiz).

They've pretty much went above and beyond the call of duty to steal Dawson from Showtime. I think they like him. I just think they saw what most of us saw, a meaningless fight that turned out to be a replay of the last fight we saw a while ago. They even said this wasn't the fight they wanted...just the only one they could get due to a rematch clause.

Hopkins wants five million, Dawson will probably want a hefty amount to seeing as how he's the undefeated champion. Neither fighter is much of a draw. HBO probably loses money if it's NOT PPV. As much as I want to see Dawson vs Hopkins, I get the feeling it'll never happen.

Yea, I got mixed messages from the announcers.

On one hand they were trying to stress that it was a better fight than the first one. HBO paid Chad big bucks for this. They think he can be a star and they want in on the party. So, I think that was part of it.

On the other hand, HBO has really stressed competitive matchups this year. And this fight was more back to "old HBO". Paying for stars and not competitive fights. So, I think the announcers were downplaying this fight and Chad's performance because it wasn't living up to the higher level of fights HBO has shown this year.

That being said, I don't like Dawson. HBO should cut their losses with this one fight. They owe him a fight and it better be against Glen Johnson if it is going to be against a 175 pound opponent. He is boring in the ring. And he is boring in his interviews. I don't see him as a next big star...

Tavoris Cloud and Glen Johnson are not C- fighters. That's a little unfair to both of them.

Right you could kind of tell they were upset that it wasn't Glen Johnson in there against Dawson.

The welterweight division isn't the hottest thing in boxing ... I think that you get more entertaining fights from the past year or so in the supermiddleweight division than you do any other division in boxing.

    Calzaghe vs Kessler
    Taylor vs Froch ended KO
    Froch vs Pascal
Abraham vs Miranda II ended in KO
    Bute vs Andrade
    Bute vs Zuniga

other than the Hatton vs Pacquiao fight ... the Margarito vs Mosley & Cotto fights - I can't think of many more.

The Bradley Holt fight was garbage ...

Its not much to say about the division but that they're full of up and comers ... I doubt if Pacquiao stays and I doubt Marquez stays ...

    With good reason.

'Not So Bad' Chad better keep fighting these 40 year old B level fighters, because the moment he steps in with an old A level fighter, namely Hopkins or Calzaghe, his '0' will go decisively.

He's been over-hyped and his performance against Tarver was fairly static, thats gonna lead to criticism. If fans accept that he's not really all that, and just take him for what he is rather than making him out to be the next Holyfield or something then fans and commentators won't be disappointed.

He's a decent fighter in a fairly weak division, that's all.
