HBO were the true architects behind Mayweather vs Pacquiao. Canelo vs GGG next.

Back when the binary stars were still circling around each other and beating up on Oscar HBO saw the success of "The World Awaits " PPV and decided to have Manny vs Oscar.

It did not have the same results but it was a success and sold 1.2 million PPVs. Right then is when the president of HBO sports decided to have Manny " chase" Mayweather by fighting the same guys and making big money in the process. HBO was killing it:

    Mayweather vs De La Hoya-2,400,000
Pacquiao vs De La Hoya- 1,250,000

    Mayweather vs Hatton-920,000
    Pacquiao vs Hatton- 850,000

    Mayweather vs Marquez-1,100,000
Pacquiao vs Marquez 3(after the Floyd fight)-1,400,000

    Mayweather vs Mosley-1,400,000
Pacquiao vs Mosley-1,340,000 (Showtime) Just threw it in to compare

    Pacquiao vs Cotto-1,250,000
    Mayweather vs Cotto-1,500,000

HBO did not expect Showtime to give Mayweather a guaranteed $250 million dollar contract. They had the Donald Sterling mentality "why give a black man that much money". It backfired and HBO couldn't give away a million PPV until "The Fight of the Century", CHECK THE RECORD!!!!

HBO is trying the same thing with Canelo vs GGG let them circle each other and build the hype again. Maybe it will work, but what won't work is 97-150k PPV sells in an era were Mayweather sold 500,000 just sparring Berto and Pacquiao sold 400,000 spanking Chris in China. HBO can't have this anymore
