HBO's refusal to show Wlad Klitschko's fights: In retrospect, was it a good decision?

He has to or he'll lose his belt, Wlad loves his belts. He's signed up to fight Povetkin twice before, only for Povetkin to pull out, so if Povetkin wants the fight now, it'll happen no doubt. Besides, Povetkin has nothing in his locker to trouble Wlad, that will be a straightforward win

They gave him another chance when he fought Haye because it was thought to be a competive fight. It turned out to be a load of **** so why the **** would they order a fight with lesser oppoents that Haye.
Sky used air all his fights and stopped after the Mormek debacle.

What does this prove?

 

HBO was interested in Wlad - Jennings. That proves that the problem for Wlad is not the fact that he's so boring but the fact that he has few opponents out there that are marketable by HBO (i.e. latino or American).

If Mitchell/Wilder/Jennings were top fighters and ready to challenge Wlad then HBO would show it because they're heavily home-biased like most other TV stations.

 

I don't think its a bad idea to keep heavyweights away for now.

Heavyweight boxing is shameful, its embarrassing when people I've introduced to the sport sit down and watch these heavyweight contenders go up against the Klitschko's.

 

Smart move. Paying money on programming very few people want to see is a poor business move.

Wlad had several opportunities to win over an American audience. His "fight" with Haye was his last chance and he completely blew it. He showed no aggression.

HBO will get better ratings showing a movie on a Saturday afternoon and it costs them much less.

 

I would like to see Wlad ratings on HBO to form an opinion.

The reason HBO is in so much trouble now with ratings on boxing. HW is what drives the sport. Wlad is the best fighter in the game. But, a bum like Andre Berto gets 10 fights on the network?

When will people realize this isn't about Wlad but about Wlad's opposition -- if HBO had a lineup of hot latino and American prospects Wlad would be shown. As long as Wlad boxes guys from Russia and Germany then they won't care.
