The ref shouldn't have stopped the fight. Ward was going to brutally finish Kov and we all know it.

his lack of a left hook is the reason he can never land a big shot on Ward you only have to worry about the right hand.

Kovalev used to have a left hook. In his earlier fights he had a decent one. Look at his fight with Cleverly to see it. But for whatever reason he's no longer throwing it. Maybe because he's 34 now or he just doesn't trust it and fears getting countered.

There's some kind of asterisk around both the punch and the stoppage.

The punch is just below the border and the stoppage is a bit premature. If you paid attention you would have noticed that Kovalev is basically sitting on the ropes when the ref stops the fight.

I would probably have called it low, but not deduct a point cause it was on the border, and let Kovalev catch his breath. If you're not gonna call it low then you should call it a knockdown for Ward, not stop the fight.

Kov was being beaten around the ring like a rag doll on a string, but that stoppage was premature and after the final shot Kov was choking on his own balls.

Guys y'all need to stop going the low blow route excuse for Kov. I didn't see ANY punches go to the groin in round 8. Kovs trunks were above his navel. He said that he would make Kov quit. He didn't quit but he took the fight out of him with those vicious bodyshots.

You just knew that Ward was going to start his fight a lot earlier. Kov was in better shape in the last fight. Kov fought too angry and frustrated. And Ward was very angry and very mean tonight.

Good physical fight, all credit to Ward. Me personally didn't have a problem with anything but the stoppage, weeks could have at least given Kovalev an 8 count, but on the flip side, it appeared that Kovalev didn't really want to continue. Kovalev started fighting desperately from the 1 min mark of the 6 round until the fight was stopped, and looked as if he was already starting to gas out. As for the so called low blows, it really depends on the ref, some will consider the waistband (especially if the trunks are high) fair game, while others will consider it low. I was a fan to Tony Weeks until the Mayweather vs Maidana 1 fight, in which he allowed Maidana to get away with several fouls, haven't been much of a fan since.
