after Saunders dropping the head the other week which he didnt need to do, whats a fair punishment for it ?

I think if a ref throws a fighter out for deliberate use of the head, a 12 month ban, and a certain amount of hours helping out at a boxing club unpaid.

I hate cheating, and a headbutt is a cowardly act in a boxing ring, not much better on the street.

when I watch a fight the last thing I wanna see is heads going in.. whats a fair punishment in your opinions ? a DQ or a ban afterwards ?

The trouble is that a lot of headbutts are ruled as "accidental" so that if the fight is stopped because of the butt it goes to the cards.

Ward had a few "accidental" head clashes with Kessler that caused the fight to be stopped, I thought at least one was an intentional butt. Saunders's headbutt looked intentional as well, but it would have been unfair to DQ him for it. a point deduction would have been fairer.

Head Butts, and rough house tatics are a skill in my opinion.

If you don't learn how to deal with them in the pro game, then **** back off to the amatuers.

I'd just say take a point off if it's clearly intentional like Saunders was. You don't have to ban people or anything, it's not a tickling contest after all! He got a dressing down so it's not like it went unchecked though.

I think you should be docked a point and diqualified if its ridiculous and persistent like Ashley Sexton against Shinny Bayar. I would agree to a point with PrimaDonna Kool that its part of the sport and there is a skill in knowing when to employ it but i'd regard butting and low blows as essentially professional fouls like diving or hacking down a player to avoid giving away a goal in football. If you do it subtely and get away with it then it can change the course of a fight but if you get caught then there has to be a punishment otherwise it would just get ridiculous.

    Funnily enough I agree.

But if you're going to be blatant about it....you deserve to be punished.

head clashes happen, it is all part of the game, but if some **** is going to put the nut on you instead of using his gloves then it aint fair game any more.

Its one of only two instructions that refs regularly give to fighters in the ring before the fight. "Defend yourself at all times" and "watch your heads"...the BJS incident was so blatant that Richie Davies should have thrown him out, no question...it wasn't a "rough house tactic", it was ring thugery

I think blatant headbutts have to be punished, maybe not a straigh DQ, because that many head butts deliberate or not happen in a lot of fights, so if there was a rule to DQ if the ref thinks there has been a deliberate head butt, then that could open up a right can of worms. I think if something like what saunders did happens, they should have there purses withheld and given a years ban and hopefully that would stop fighters even thinking about headbuting.
