Anybody ever use Rival Traditional Training Headgear? Or any Lonsdale? Just curious cuz sometimes I'll see good deals on them and even tho I stick with Grants, Reyes, competition everlast, just wondering if anybody has experience with them and how they hold up (durability, visibility, comfortness, protection, quality, bang for the buck, etc) The Rival headgear looks pretty bitchin man, Canadian brand, tho I believe some models of gloves, like the Guerrero, made in Mexico. I have a pair of those and love them, decent quality for the money. Or if anybody recommends or has a favorite type of headgear let me know lets hear about it.

I've used the Rival RHG2, one of their cheaper headgear. I loved it, because it fit really well (my sizing recommendation was sm-med, but I used the med-large and it fit perfectly) and the inside material made it stay in place. Plus it has the ear strips which I feel are crucial - I can't understand why some headgear don't come w/em, because I used to get my eardrums clapped repeatedly, and that never happened once I got them.

The only drawback tho, is that the cloth material on the inside absorbs all the sweat, so after a year and a half of use (2 or 3 times a week) it begun to smell, and I didn't want to know what kind of germs were in there.

But for the price, and the use I got out of them, I'd say it was a very good purchase, especially if you're on a budget.

My new pair is also rival - with the facebar. The inside has a more nylon like material - i really like them as well, and they seem like good quality, but I've only used them 3 times, so i can't speak for the longterm.

My next pair though, I will go with all leather.

Does the face bar actually makes any difference? Does it take off more from your opponents punches or anything?

Also can you give a comparison, like which do you prefer?

I actually never cared for a facebar one, since I have a small nose and I don't have issues getting punched in the nose. But my friend was selling his practically new for cheap, and I don't have a job - so i went for it.

I'm not sure exactly what you meant with "does it take off more from your opponents' punches", but compared with no facebar, it feels exactly the same when getting punched in the face. But since the face opening is smaller - your face gets a lot less marked up. The bar somewhat gets in the way of your nose and breathing, but then you get used to it. And I suppose that only serves to improve your conditioning anyway, so I don't mind it.

I prefer no facebar, but there's advantages to both I presume.

Yea man I've heard good things about Rival headgear guess I'll try them out. I don't care much for facebar I feel it obstructs too much vision and have a harder time seeing uppercuts coming, but I know a lot of folks like them. There's a brand called Golden Gear supposed to be alot like Winning and Winning inspired might also try them out. They look eerily similar.
