More money from more sanctioning fees, that's what the corrupt WBA wants.

I believe in ya champ. Glad to have got to talk to you in your early days, before your reign as the inaugural WBFTW Randomweight champion of the world! :ggg

Precisely. A week or two back I saw they were already sanctioning a bout for the inaugural belt next Saturday, between Tishchenko and Harth. At the time it was also being reported as "Bridgerweight" as well, but it appears they've decided to call it something else.

Which again, is about the only positive I can find in this situation. Instead of a dumb name for a dumb division, we now have a sensible name for a dumb division. What an improvement

Imagine being that kid, though? If the whole boxing world decided yeah we're going to keep the division named after you but **** your dumb name.

I think we may be witnessing the most ****ed up case of Indian giving ever recorded. "Your heroics were enough to get a division named for you, but only for a few years." Poor Bridger

Super heavyweight and heavyweight make more sense.

Future headline: former child hero in a fit of alcoholic rage punches his sister in the face and strangles dog to death.

Coming soon: The Zeroweight Division. You watch an empty ring for 12 rounds, complete with buzzers, bells, and sound effects. BUT, and it is a BIG BUT, Pay Per View for these events is only $25 USD. And there is the selling point! Get a really good Broadcaster with a good imagination, and that just might fly!

Ghostweight is next. It's hyped up as being the division to finally answer who wins hypothetical matchups between dead fighters. Basically, sanctioned fantasy matchups with ouija boards :sisi1

Question for Boxing history experts over here

Have there been cases of new weight classes being introduced at the higher weights (like let's say above 147 lbs) & then quietly being dropped due to lack of recognition?

Hoping that will be the fate of this new division

The last new division was cruiser, and it was actually widely unpopular but obviously did stick.

Not an expert by any means but I've read into the history of boxing a pretty good bit. As far as I'm aware, no weight class has ever really gone away once recognized by a major boxing organization. I had hopes for this one eventually disappearing after no other organization latched onto it, but now that the WBA has it's prolly only a matter of time before the other two get in on it as well. Looks like it's following the blueprint of Cruiserweight in that regard.

Those Regular Belts are going the way of the dodo, something dumb had to happen to even things out
