Same thing, different label. Sorta like how some organizations call it "Super Welterweight" instead of "Light Middleweight," or "Minimumweight" or "Mini Flyweight" as opposed to "Strawweight."

Cause 18 weight divisions, four sanctioning bodies each with their own champ and possible Interim champions just isn't confusing enough. They gotta call the divisions different names too

Is any org using the title of "Super Light heavyweight" yet? it has just the right level of confusion and oxymoronic tone to fit modern boxing.

Not yet, but whenever they start carving into Cruiserweight I'm sure we'll see it. Funnily enough, Cruiser is actually one of the few divisions outside of the originals to be pretty much uniform... except with the WBO, who call it "Junior Heavyweight," which is pretty ****ing redundant if you ask me, considering it's right above "Light Heavyweight."

The only other weight class to have a uniform name is Super Middleweight. You just know someone wanted to call it "Junior Light Heavyweight," but thankfully that was a bridge too far. For now at least

Cruiserweight preceded Super Middleweight, I think.

Right. ROFL! I'm still waiting for the day when one of the boxing organizations goes for broke and makes a weight division for every 5 pounds. 130, 135, 140, *145*, 147 (you can't get rid of that weight class), *150*, 154 (again, you can't get rid of previous weight classes), *155*, 160 (wow sweet!), *165*, 168, *170*, 175 (one of the best since it matches all criteria!), *180*, *185*... You just know that it is the WBC's deep dark plans. All those shiny new belts and all that extra profit! XD

Yep, I mean this has already happened technically, since heavies get heavier. Marciano etc. are not really considered heavyweights by many anymore, historical discussion pin them against cruisers and light heavies. In the future, people may discuss Ali and Tyson in Super Cruiserweight hypothetical fights, but not heavy.

Yes and no, it's murky. There was experimentation with a "junior light heavyweight" and later super middleweight featuring titles contested at 167/168lbs in 1967, predating the introduction of "junior heavyweight" twelve years later in '79. The first to have a world title sanctioned under its current name was cruiser in 1980 (but the limit wasn't what it is today yet; it would remain fixed at 190 for a couple of decades), predating SMW by four years. 168lbs was also slower to be recognized as a championship division by the Big 3 (that is, WBC/WBA/IBF ...in those days the nascent WBO hadn't earned a seat at the table), fully adopted in 1988 whereas the 190lb version of CW managed the feat in three years, by '83 - but again, had its permanent name & parameters fixed first.
