Some good points in this thread. I agree with the sentiments that they need to acquire rights for a big sport so a casual sports fan signs up to start a following.

At the moment DAZN is not being taken seriously. I believe that is because, to me, it feels all a bit 'Startup/introductory', sort of feels like they're experimenting the market.

I think it will succeed it will take time but Hearn has said the people behind it ( not really looked into who they are ) have very very deep pockets!

once they start acquiring some niche American sports I think the 9.99 will look a bargain .

I saw the Italian DAZN not sure if it's the same sort of price but the content was unreal nearly every major sport was on there , if that was anywhere in the region of 9.99 absolute bargain!!

In the short term I think they'll struggle without a big American name in, don't know what happened about the talks to sign Garcia or the Charlos.

But DAZN seems to be in it for the long haul and want to acquire as much sports as possible in the US and being bankrolled by a billionaire is always handy.

In the long term boxing wise i can see a lot of the American amatuers signing with Hearn, but again short term Hearn has underestimated how loyal fighters would be to AL Haymon.

It’s too early to say. I’m all for the idea of it but without the right fighters/fights it’s not going to work. Time will tell.

He will pull off been successful in the USA.
Them guys may be tied up atm but they might change their mind when their contracts are coming close to renewal. Also there's a lot of fresh talent coming through.
If you think Eddie is going to crash with a billion dollars behind him you must be crazy. Let's have this conversation in a few years time and see where he is then, you can hardly gauge his success before he's even had his first show

Ye it sounds good, it was on free tv but the fact is it jumped from that many stations to stations that it was hard to keep track of. Al made a right balls up of pbc.
Last I heard he was been sued for mismanaging the funds

    I don't think he'll make it.

It's just not that easy to access the casuals over there.

Over here, we have Sky Sports that is watched by the majority of the football fans. That's how they get their info and then turn up the events

Over in the states, does Showtime or HBO have a dedicated appears channel than can plug their boxing events? ESPN and Fox might do a little 20m segment on an upcoming fight but then it's back to basketball, football and baseball.

He doesn't have the same tools he has over here to hit the casual fanbase at all.

DAZN is aiming to buy rights of all the major sports in the USA it's not just a boxing channel. This will help the boxing part of the business ten fold!! Early days but my money is on the channel being very successful in the long-term just have to be patient.

    I read it.
One of the inverters from Waddell and reed the hedge fund co who bankrolled Al, took Al to court for squandering the money.
I don't know the outcome of the case, I'll have a look later to see if I can bring the case up to date.
