As ridiculous as it sounds in a dangerous sport like boxing, I really think fast Eddie needs pulling up abit on the ‘safety’ of some of his recent matchups. Price V Povetkin This is a scandal. David has zero chance in this fight against a certified world level, big hitter. David was last seen looking terrified against an absolute bum in a comeback fight - and Eddie thinks it’s a good idea to put him in with Povetkin? Look, I get it’s Prices choice to fight, and I don’t think he has any type of contract with Eddie, but he is not up to this level, and he should at least be making reasonable steps forward before jumping in like this. It’s likely to end very badly and if Eddie had any real compassion he would not have any part in this. Price v Chisora would be a reasonable fight- yes, David would probably get beat but Derrick is not a major hitter and he would probably get stopped on his feet with exhaustion rather then badly wiped out. Let’s also not forget, Hearn was seriously contemplating putting Price in against AJ before deciding on Molina...which would have been a disaster. Dodd v Coyle Tommy is shot to ribbons and the geezer is so punch drunk his brain may as well be swimming in vodka- you’ve only got to see the interviews today to see how bad it’s getting. Fcuk knows how the guy is passing his medicals. Dodd will destroy him and it’s likely to be another bad KO. Hearn was also actively trying to put Coyle in with a big hitter In OD before all that BS and that would have been a brutal beat down. Eddie got him decent paydays against Campbell etc and should be advising him to knock the game on the head. Yes, Tommy is a grown man but ffs where is the compassion..? GGG - Brook Yes, I know this is old news now but I’m sorry this was one of the most scandalous match ups in this history of British boxing. Brook made good money, I get that but this was extremely reckless on Hearns part to put him in at middleweight against Golovkin..all because he couldn’t deliver the Eubank fight..horrendous. There are other examples, but I don’t want to waffle on for to long
Putting Dave Allen in with Ortiz on the AJ vs Molina undercard is another that's right up there as well. Allen was nowhere near ready for that kind of fight. He still isn't now.
Whilst I agree that Hearn does put some wreckless fights together, i’m not sure I agree with all you’re saying mate. Dodd against Coyle is not a wreckless match-up. Dodd isn’t a big hitter, i’m a fan of his but he grinds his opponents down for decision wins. If anything, Coyle is the bigger puncher. Price is 6”8, and a big puncher. His record isn’t actually that bad. The Teper defeat was written off, as was Tony Thompson’s. Hammer is a pretty decent heavyweight and just did 12 rounds with Povetkin. I know we all joke about him on here but he’s no mug. Mentally fragile maybe but it’s not like he’s fighting a division or two up against a bigger fighter. l know he’s a running joke on here, but he is a dangerous opponent. Brook vs GGG was just ridiculous and I totally agree about that.
Not to defend Hearn but safety falls on the fighter himself, his manager and his trainer. And as a very last resort it falls again on his corner/ref/doctor during the fight. I don't see GGG-Brook and Price-Pov as something super outrageous. Hearn's job is to promote and offer his fighters good money which they are getting.
Regarding the Povetkin v Price fight I think it's Hearn hoping two things come off....Price wins and not only does it take Povetkin out of the equation regarding AJ it also sets another of Eddies "British Superfight". You see it daily with him trying to match Whyte who is European level at best with Wilder hoping Whyte somehow wins. Again we also saw it with Ortiz when he signed with Hearn on the pretence that he gets the AJ fight only to be left dangling.
I agree with your first point but come on... Whyte whether he truly deserves it or not is no1 now in the wbc. He is an obvious fight for wilder in my opinion. And I don’t honk Hearn did Ortiz much favours but he looked awful in two fights he should of looked great in in my opinion.
Do you really think Hearn makes all the decisions on who a boxer fights? This is another case of Hearn getting hatred for no reason at all. The boxer and his management team make the final decision and the main reason they accept stupid fights is because of money. If you are not happy with the mis-matches then blame the fighters not Hearn.
Dodd vs Coyle Certainly not a reckless match up. I anticipate a very close match up. Price vs Povetkin 2 heavyweights going at it. Price genuinely has a chance here. Povetkin isn’t what he once was and Price in reality is at prime age. GGG - Brook Reckless I’ll give you that. Moving up two divisions to fight one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport. Brook was ultimately behind it but Eddie could have put the blockers on it. Ortiz - Allen As someone pointed out this was reckless. World level fighter and a big hitter against a fringe British level punchbag. Fortunately he looked like came away unscathed but that could have been dangerous.
It’s a good point. Is frank more reckless? He’s putting the biggest mismatches on and a lot more frequently. Only because they aren’t British fighters on the receiving end it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be called out. Yarde and Dubois these punchers who both punch harder than AJ according to Frank and he puts them in with absolute bums month in, month out.
I think Coyle gets to Dodd in a war and stops him. Dodd is stupidly fit and is superb at dragging more gifted boxers into his fight. Stalker was the perfect example of this, but Coyle can mix it as well as box when he wants and he hits well harder than Cardle who hurt him. O'Connor's stoppage was wrong though. Coyle does slur his words a bit but no more than the likes of Terry Flanagan who bragged about sparring regularly with no head guard. Derry Mathews pulled him up on it. Why the hell has Coyle been out so long anyway? Since Campbell he fought Nurse who's awkward as they come and did well. I thought it was much closer than many on here had it. Then he ko'd that Rakeem Noble. Hearn said he wanted Coyle v Gavin after that but instead he's been out 14 months by fight night. The Price one will always be seen as fair enough because people remember how powerful Price was. While people see him having a punchers chance with that bomb of a right they will always accept it. In reality he hasn't let it go for years and every fight I am desperate for him to get the confidence to because he should still be a nightmare for squat short arse heavyweights like Povetkin. He hasn't had any hidings like you see fella's heads getting pinged everywhere round after round. Thompson caught him cold behind the ear, he looked wobbly so the ref stopped it. Against Teper he was knocked out cold by the first clean punch but the other two losses his gas tank gave in before he could get any sustained beating.
Reckless is different to a mismatch. Agree with most above. GGG-Brook was reckless. Ortiz-Allen was reckless, although to be fair Allen maintains he genuinely believed he could win that fight such is the mentality of some boxers.
Completely agree, good post. Worth pointing out though, it's not just Hearn. Warren recently put a LHW in with Dubois. If Lo Greco wasn't getting around 2.5 months to prepare for Khan I'd have added that to the list because it looks like he needs to lose 40lbs at least to make the weight.
Hearn makes the descion weather it's a PPV Event. Therefore he gets the blame for these disgusting PPV's just to fill in his Quotas.Brook-Gavin,Brook-Spence(It didnt have to be PPV as Spence was a Mandatory).Joshua-Breazeale,Joshua-Molina,Joshua-Whyte(British Commenwealth fight on PPV LoL) even Haye-Bellew(No meaning to it in the World Scene and still put on PPV) PPV is for Fights which cant happen without it,are you telling me these fights couldnt be made without PPV ??? **** off
