Hearn/Matchroom/Sky deliberately clashed these dates to blow the BT Sport PPV model out of the water before it got started! I see no other reason.
I've said this elsewhere but both camps have stuck to their story. Hearn says he had the O2 booked in advance and was always going to put a show on on the 22nd. Warren says he announced his fight first (which is true) and that takes precedent. The truth is probably that both are at fault in some way, but I have major issues with the idea that it makes promotional sense to put a fight on in Manchester featuring two boxers with limited widespread appeal, but big fanbases in Belfast and Leeds, and to have it on three days before Christmas. I think it's happening because it's been ordered after a dreadful year for Warren and BT. It feels like it should be an April/May stadium fight and that both (certainly Warrington) should have had a fight in their hometowns around this time of year.
From what I remember Tony,, Hearn said he had always had the O2 booked after Warren announced his show. We only have Eddies word for that. I certainly do agree with the rest of your post.
Id bet Frampton had it in his contract, a world title fight in 2018. A series of events, including Valdez getting injured, ironically by a Matchroom fighter, has left Warren with no choice but to do it on this date.
I suppose you could also look at what else the O2 had on for December. Whyte Chisora II was the most unsurprising fight that could be imagined, so Warren had to have seen it coming. Frank can't talk of clashes harming fans when he was so keen on allowing such clashes to happen. Hoist by his own petard.
Whilst that is possible I think it's more likely that Warren had to deliver certain numbers for BT and this has pushed the fight into happening now. If he's giving the big bosses there the same talk he gives the fans, then they'll be fuming with what he's delivered.
You've nailed it, Warren is talking and has always talked like these two events are going to split things 50/50 and it's clearly not the case. Whyte Chisora card will absolutely murder Frampton Warrington, it will absolutely kill it. The difference in the promotional side of things has been embarrassing, it has been so one sided, I've not seen one advertisement for Frampton Warrington but have seen advertisement after advertisement for Whyte Chisora. Right now, at this moment in time, I don't see a head to head card Warren and BT will "win" against Hearn, Matchroom, Sky, DAZN. Warren is taking all this far too personal, its business, in my opinion with these alleged financial issues FW has he might be better off just getting on with things, securing Wilder Fury II and try and make money instead of trying to poke Hearn in the eye.
What people don't remember is there were BBBofC rules that didn't allow rival shows on the same day I believe.. something along those lines and it was Warren himself who got the rule changed. Now he isn't the main man and he is on the receiving end of things it is all "unfair" and out of order "on the fans".. he is crying and whining like a little female dog on my opinion.
Hence why he keeps taking about this clash as that will be his get out. He will simply use Whyte v Chisora as his #1 excuse if Warrington v Frampton under performs. He can as usual just blame it on Hearn.
If you're Warren's boss in the BT sense though will you buy that? If I've been promised by Frank that he'll deliver X and he doesn't, do I just accept his Hearn is to blame issue? Ultimately I don't give a hoot about Hearn; I purely care about numbers and if they're good or not.
But that’s not the point is it! Hearn wants to nail Warren to the canvas, I have no doubt about that, and because of this I am forced to make a choice between the two so yes I feel I am being short changed!
How many buys really has Eddie taken off Warren here? 80k at a push? Frank's got no business sticking that fight on ppv because he hasn't got the PR machine or the know how on how to market fights to the casuals.
