I'm beginning to wonder if this is part of a build-up towards AJ vs Zhilei Zhang ... that could do massive numbers in China ...
I'm not sure of his popularity in China to be honest. He doesn't seem to have the following Shimming did
Some people are speculating that on Twitter. I personally think Ustinov wins easy but in any event, I think it would be hard sell to even the casual fans, unless it was to take place in the aftermath of Joshua beating Wilder (if he wins that fight of course).
Looking forward to the Zhang vs Ustinov fight. Zhang has been in no man's land his whole pro career, he's pushing 36, needs to put his foot to the floor and take on some names.
Still, if Zhang was to challenge for HW supremacy it'd do massive numbers in China even if he honestly has no chance. I reckon he gets past Ustinov, Ustinov looked awful against Charr, and I expect anything close to go to Zhang.
This is gash. The Zhilei Zhang fight is the only one I'm semi interested in as it is a step up, but Ustinov isn't a good watch.
Indeed, he's unknown at the moment (and for good reason too, he's fought no one), but I wouldn't underestimate the power of good marketing in a huge country - it's the sort of thing I could see Chinese martial arts fans getting onboard for.
This is like the South Park episode where it shows the Family Guy script writers are actually manatees who live in a big tank, and pick up random "idea" balls from the bottom of the tank to be delivered to a machine which in turn creates the script. Is this what happened here?
By no means am I saying this is a great card but I dont think its dreadful. Buglioni-Meng and Ustinov-Zhang both represent intriguing match ups for me. Zhang is pretty unheralded in the pros (went life and death with a Georgian journeyman apparently) but he has a pretty good amatuer pedigree. Lost to Yamaguchi Falcao on countback in London. He carries decent power in his backhand too (as evidenced by his nuking of Daniel Judah) which we know Buglioni is wide open for. Could be a banana skin this. Zhang pro career has been utter dross to date but his boxing skills are definatley there. It is ridiculous that Ustinov is the biggest test of his career to date, considering that he has been a pro for four years now but ho hum. I am interested in seeing how he fares with a durable lump in front of him.
The other two fights are a bit crap though tbh. Lebedev is fighting a club fighter with a bloaty record and we know Gonzalez is a rung below world level through his loss to Ancajas. Yafai is fustrating me tbh. He has been pretty much treading water since his breakout performance against Concepcion, he desperatly needs a Neites, Estrada, Rungvisai fight to put him on the map. Too inactive as well.
And yet in my opinion it's still better than the majority of FW cards. Maybe you can make another thread "FW announces ANOTHER horrific Yarde Opponent" You need to let this Hearn obsession go, it's starting to damage you as a poster.
