Nothing to do with Hayden or any other 'personal problems'. Nothing to do with age or being shot either. He looked bad against Jennings and Fury because he was unable to use his illegal tactics for the first time in nearly a decade. Against Jennings the fight took place in NYC where the ref was adhering to the actual rulebook, he continually warned Wlad and took a point off which scared him into fighting clean, resulting in a less than dominant performance. Against Fury, Wlad simply couldnt jab/grab/lean on or clinch the bigger, stronger man. Take these tactics away from Wlad and he is extremely vulnerable. He would have the same problem against Joshua, who would KO any version of him.
An explanation which holds some weight certainly in the case of Jennings about the hit and hold tactics. However, he KO'd Kubrat Pulev inside 5 rounds who is only officially listed at 4cms shorter than him, but looks the same size. AJ is officially listed as 1m 98 the same size as Wlad. If Wlad can do that to Pulev he can do it to AJ. Lets remind ourselves that AJ has only fought one live domestic level opponent worth anything (Whyte) and one world level opponent who took a dive, thus far in his short pro career. He is hardly prepared for a 11 year unbeaten world champion just coming off his first loss in 11 years since 2004.... Hence why I doubt this fight gets made.
People love simple explanations: "Take away the grab and hold and Wlad is not dangerous" or "Just land a single shot on Wlad's chin and you win the fight". Unfortunately simple explanations very rarely accurately explain reality. Neither of these two theories hold when tested.
Klit rolled out the bouncy castle for Pulev. Why do you think he couldn't move around? Go back and look. His feet were sunk into the canvas.
Its a proved fact. Look what happened when his holding was taken away vs Brewster - destroyed. Fury - lost wide Jennings - he was meant to blow him away in under 4 rounds. He ended up losing 4 rounds
It cracks me up that fans think they've solved the Da Vinci Code with sayings like that. As though it were really that easy, and the people whose livelihood depends on the sport and finding winning strategies are just too dumb to figure it out.
Sadly it really is that simple. Wlad adopted the style to stop himself getting routinely destroyed by gatekeepers. He loses or looks bad in every fight where these tactics are taken away from him. When he can't bend the rules, Wlad is a sitting duck.
The problem for Joshua is he's never been past the 7th round. In fact, he was taken to the 7th only twice (by Whyte and by Breazeale) and the rest of his fights were walkovers inside 3 rounds. If he fights Wladimir they will be counting on him ending it early.
The ONLY reason Fury wins is because of his size. Look at the Cunningham fight. Cunningham a Glass Jawed feather fisted Cruiserweight was able to knock Fury down and outbox him. Only when Fury started clinching, holding, grabbing, forearming and holding and hitting was he able to win. So not sure why you go on and on about Wlad when Fury had to do worse things to pull out a fight against a guy so much smaller than him. Wlad would have iced Cunningham in 2 rounds max with a savage KO.
Wlad was floored by Steve Pannell and KO'd by Ross Purrity though. Cunningham's better than those two at least.
Fury didn't need size to beat Wlad. Wach had the same size as Fury . Look how that went. It was Cunningham's strategy to cling to Fury after every punch. Did you expect him to box him at range? Cunningham himself was responsible for a lot of that clinching. Fury even held his arms out , showing the ref Cunningham was doing it as well. No he wouldn't have you Brit hating buffoon. That Cunningham was 10 levels above the shots to bits , inactive Mormek who Wlad went four rounds against - clinching and mauling far worse than Fury. Cunningham was technically far better than Haye who Wlad could barely land a glove on. Its a 100% fact that Wlad would have been all over Steve's back piece. At least Fury walked him down and blasted him out. Wlad would have fought timid all night throwing punch -grab , punch - grab over and over. You have no problem with Wlad making a career fighting the way Fury fought once. Do you think people can't see you for what you are? A Brit hating moronic troll
You need to actually watch the Purrity fight. Wlad fell over on his own from exhaustion. Purrity didn't even land a punch and wasn't close to him at the time. Fury wins because of his size. He has no power and very little skills.
Cunningham is a Glass Jawed Cruiserweight who Fury went life and death with and only won because of his size and the cheating/fouling tactics.
