Okolie signing made sense to me. Sky have spent years puffing his life story so whatever enagement he has managed to drum up will be strongest in their audience. They need PPV worthy fights and they want a seat at the heavyweight table and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Okolie can unify all 4 titles before moving up in weight and that would give him a shot at the WBO HW holder.
Bad signings by Shalom imo. In the Clarke/Wardley case, I just watched an interview with Shalom where he explained in great detail that a) it is too soon for Frazer Clarke to take a 12 rounder for a British title, and Shalom is looking after his man by withdrawing from bids. and b) that Boxxer have made a fantastic offer to Wardley to make the fight on Sky, because they'd love that fight. Both can't be true, obviously. Only the mundane, low octane energy of Shlom saved him from being asked the obvious supplementary question about this contradiction. The interviewer missed it because he zoned out.
Everything about Shalom annoys me. His boring personality, his articulation "no Earn, no..Dazn", him sitting there ringside with birds thinking he's all Jack the lad, his boring stable, his boring personality. Where did this bloke even come from?
Hearn isn't bullying Shalom whatsoever he's just not holding back on the farce and complete waste of time that this has been. - Shalom has said he offered Wardley a 1 fight deal which was a "huge offer" that would be his biggest career pay day.... yet Wardley has been offered more elsewhere. - If the offer was so big then why didn't they bid instead of pulling out of purse bids ?????? - Why did they even make an offer in the first place if your now saying that Clarke needs to have a 10/12 rounder under his belt first? It makes absolutely zero sense and it's made a mockery of Clarke's reputation in all honesty yet it's not even his fault, in mine and most people's opinion he wants the fight. Now, to make matters even worse, Shalom is coming out talking about "A-sides" for **** sake. It's two novice heavyweights that are early on in there pro career and he's talking about ****ing A sides like its Spence v Crawford. Absolute joke.
Let’s not forget we work together Shalom has upset many before him in a short space of time ask John Doherty and BJS what they think of him. he went around trying to use underhand tactics like all promoters do granted to get Okolie out of his contract and insert himself into the Parker vs Joyce negotiations to get Frank to pay more. He may not be as brash but he’s the same as the rest of the promoters. there’s a reason he literally has notes in his interviews he reads from
The interviewer missed it because he was told by the pr rep sitting next to him that follow up questions were to be kept to a minimum and Ben would only answer certain questions.
Feel a bit sorry for Ben,he's obviously out of his depth but he hasn't really done anything that screams obvious disaster,he's tried to bring womens boxing to the fore, and hes signed a couple of boxers, okolie and buatsi who haven't set the world alight, but if he hadn't signed them people would be saying he should of done, basically he's learning on the job in full glare of the public,Frank Warren didn't just become a successful promoter overnight, and Eddie hearn was given the keys to the matchroom company by his dad Maybe give Ben the benefit of the doubt and see where he his in a year or so
I’m no Shalom fan but presumably the offer was a for a fight later in the year, allowing Clarke a fight first?
