This is why they would do well to bring prize fighter back now with bigger purses. It creates stars or at least gains fighters recognition too.

Barry and Eddie Hearn run Matchroom Boxing Events like a tightship. From what Eddie is saying, they wont invest money into a show that will lose money. Frank Warren and others are the opposite according to Eddie. So from what Eddie said yesterday on IFL, Matchroom and Sky both have decided to invest a little more money into the Saturday night fight cards.

If the rights fees aren't big enough, why dont Matchroom make up the shortfall to pay fighters a little more and make the show a success rather than just piggyback off of Sky's money? They're quick to point out about how well they're doing and that everyone should look on Companies House (which I have) and they've got a healthy bank balance sitting there. Shouldnt they invest in the sport too?

To continue my post above, I believe Frank did used to invest more of his own money into shows to make them happen obviously with a goal of getting that money returned later on when a big fight materialised. His downfall was he wasn't able to always get the big fights materialised or get the big TV dates, PPV dates because of multiple reasons such as poor promotions, fighters leaving him etc and he would have probably carried on running at a loss which is why he's hit financial problems far more than the Hearns.

Hearns are smart with their money and so they should be but they can easily finance some shows to get them over the line rather than just tell everyone "the rights fees are rubbish over here, we're off to the States"

One major problem for myself is that too many fighters and promoters are scared of losing their prized "0".

Yet one of the fights of the year (Fowler / Fitzgerald) had 2 fighters with Os, who both traded and put on a spectacle with a great partisan crowd. Ticked all of the boxes and you know what?, as much as he is an annoying idiot, the loss isn't the end for Fowler.

The mindset of "Oh, lose your "0" and your career slopes off son" has to be abolished for the future good of the sport.

Who cares if you lose a fight along the way, it's sport, losses happen. The fans stay with you in the main.

Less posteuring on social media bragging about your "0", more of putting said "0" on the line please. Then we'll get the decent fights, from Area Level to World Level, that we all crave.

I'll believe it when I see it, the last 18 months imo haven't been good enough from Sky. We will see. I saw something on twitter comparing the upcoming Manchester card to a Matchroom Manchester card four years ago and the one four years ago was headlined by Quigg vs Martinez and had Crolla vs Perez, Eggington vs Foot & Jenkins vs Nurse on the undercard.

It will not be as exciting as Hearn is making out. He will just be sinking in to his budget to do like a Calum Smith vs N'dam type fight. Will be typical Matchroom mismatches but just involving a bigger name.

The Matchroom philosophy is just all about who is on the card as opposed to the fights on the card. Who gives a fcuk if Cordina, Benn, Okolie, Kelly are all on a card when they are odds of 1/100.

More boring shiit coming our way. Although having said that, crap boxing is better than no boxing.
