Papa Hearn said that not baby Hearn.. When it was put to Eddie that his crusty Alzheimer's father has said that even he said 'just ignore him he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about'.. he's part of the old timer rose tinted brigade that thinks everything was better in his day
He won wide in a semi competitive fight. I gave Campbell three maybe four rounds max. Is he a tad over rated, hell yeah, but he is still one of the top pound for pound boxers out there.
Given the injury he came back from(similar to Whytes)I thought he looked great.Greatness can be a fleeting thing in boxing in any case, one minute you're on top of the world and the next you end up flat on your back. Floyd's performance against Canelo was truly great but even he had some stinkers.
I just don't think 135 is appropriate for Lomachenko. He was clearly a lot more skilled than Campbell, but the huge range, size, and power advantage that Campbell held really seemed to be giving him a lot of trouble. If anyone said Loma should go to heavyweight, they would obviously be nuts. But I think the same logic applies to entering into any higher weight class when it stops being about skill, and starts being about size advantages.
Yep, his style which is all about distance control doesn’t bode very well against tall guys, if Campbell was carrying more power it could have been different. But we’re asking for a LW Tommy Hearns to beat Loma which is saying a lot about Loma, and even then he might find a way to adjust.
I was impressed with Loma. He fought a big lightweight in his back yard, knocked him down twice, and clearly won going away. That's the price you pay in moving up. You can't ko everyone.
Campbell was motivated, has a good ring IQ and is a gold medallist himself. It was never going to be a Walter type of destruction for Lomachenko. Were people expecting a one round demolition job?
