Silly fight. I was hoping that dope would move up to SM but it looks like a certainy he'll be hanging aroung so he can rematch Sergio. Barker has little chance and this is horrible by Eddie imo. He'd be better fighting Geale or even GGG were at least a title is at stake. Macklin or Lee are better as well.

He's basically a fat guy, like Hatton, who eats and eats and then has to kill himself to make weight.

This was about a month after the Martinez fight

They need to stop him gaining so much in between fights.

Chavez is an overrated puncher. He only has 3 stoppages in his last 12 fights, although it's fair to say that his power has improved recently. Still, he isn't a natural knockout artist, I don't think, and I don't see any reason why Barker should fear his power. The majority of picks in this thread have been for a Chavez stoppage, which indicates he's some fearsome puncher...based on what? He wasn't able to stop Duddy or Lyell. He went the distance with Zbik, who got stopped by the moderate hitting Sturm in his next fight. Rubio is tough but if Chavez was a serious puncher, he'd have hurt him a lot more than he did.

I just don't see it with Chavez. He is a solid puncher and his punches look powerful but I don't think he's got the type of power many think he has. He's a long, long way behind the likes of Golovkin and Lemieux and I don't think he's a bigger puncher than Martinez either.

Barker should be able to take his power and honestly, I think Barker has got a decent chance here. Chavez can be outboxed, he's not hard to hit and he's a very basic fighter. He's also without Roach too, which is a bonus for Barker. I'm not saying that Barker would win because I think it'd be a tough fight, but I think quite a few people are underrating Barker and overrating Chavez here.

i agree, ppl forget that zbik was outboxing him less then 2 years ago, zbik practically stood in front of him all night and seemed to take his shots well, i think barker can do it.

Like i said in the other barker/jr thread, barker can win ten rounds if hes in peak, peak career shape. His sparring will have to be borderline unfair if hes gonna keep this gregga merchant off him, but talent wise its not even remotely close. I wld love to see jr fight groves. Bombs away.

Why is there a rematch? Only chance Chavez has is that Martinez is getting old.

He's not a fearsome puncher but he can dig. In my opinion he will wear Barker down. Always on him with shots to the body and head. Kinda like the Lee fight.

This is the wrong fight to make for Darren Barker in my opinion. Should build his way up the rankings. 2 fights he could be mandatory.

If it was on neutral ground, I'd give Barker a decent chance of beating Chavez, he'd outbox him early, would just come down to whether Chavez got to him late or not. I'd probably favour Chavez, but not by much.

He's got next to no chance against him if its in Mexico City, no way he's winning a decision over Chavez there

I think Barker would survive, but Chavez simply wears him down and wins on points as many have said.

Digging up his KO record for the last 5 years isn't much use. He is a completely different animal now from when he fought those guys. The kid that turned up against Zbik would have been executed by Martinez in 6 rounds. He has perfected his Ariza weight act and now he knows his identity in the ring. He was a laughing stock for his crappy performances but he improved dramatically. If Chavez Jr is banging your body consistantly, you are in big trouble.
