True, but punching power is a natural attribute and is hard to significantly improve. He might be bigger and stronger now than he was prior to working with Ariza, but one thing Ariza can't improve is a fighters natural power. Chavez is a strong fighter and he hits harder than he did a few years ago but his power isn't something which should be feared by good opposition, I don't think. Who has he ever stopped? Manfredo and Lee? He's heavy handed but that's about it.

Looking at the way Barker took Martinez's shots before that right hand which burst his eardrum, I don't think Barker has much to worry about. Martinez is a more dangerous puncher than Chavez.

Chavez has a completely different style to Sergio. Chavez will be on him from the opening bell. He's a pressure fighter. Julio will want his head buried into Darren's chest as quickly as possible.

It's not the power, it's really whether Barker can handle the pressure and physicality. Lee couldn't (and I don't think Barker will be able to, he'll just get worn down).

I am not talking about natural punching power here. I am saying he is akin to a big LH fighter hitting a middleweight. He plods in the front door and will eat your best punches and probably smile. When he has made it inside, he will make himself at home by sitting down and letting you have it with everything he has. He is quite happy to get hit and not throw anything for multiple rounds until he gets in range as he doesn't want to waste anything. I don't see Barker deterring him or keeping him at bay. The other thing about the Martinez fight was how quickly Dazza wilted once Sergio got through. Again not good for the lad.

Maybe just maybe Barker is getting Chavez Jnr at the right time. Chavez unmotivated, thinks it will be easy, doesn't train, cuts weight to fast etc etc.

I agree that MArtinez is more dangerous in the sense that Barker may not see a shot of his coming but Chavez is clearly more powerful. Unfortunately for Barker this would go the same way as the Lee fight.
Barker has skills to box circles around chavez but its going to be another small ring and who knows if its in Texas if we can expect legitimate officiating (outside the ring) with respect to urine samples. Where there is smoke there is fire.

It's a big fight probably for big money. He should take it win and he becomes a big name lose and he has plenty of options with macklin Murray Lee.

Will those fights still be relevant when all of them have 2-3 losses on the records? There fighting to prove who the best Middlewieght that's not able to step up to world level is?

I think Barker could seriously win this if it were to happen, I don't personally think Chavez Jr is all that, he just uses his size (and possibly PEDs) to bully smaller fighters and beat them down. Apart from the last round he was completely schooled and made to look **** by Martinez. Barker however gave Sergio a good fight and caused him some problems with his slick ability. Busted up Martinez's nose if I remember correctly.

Chavez Jr was completely outboxed by Andy Lee too, if the ring hadn't been the size of a kid's paddling pool then I seriously doubt he would have been able to catch up to Lee and stop him.

If Barker gets a decent sized ring which allows him to move about and he's on his A game on the night I'd seriously back him to win.
