Hearn trying to make Darren Barker vs JC Chavez Jr June 22

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by NJR, Apr 2, 2013.

  1. chavez has been in training for a while now with ariza for this fight - they have kept his weight under control

In one way eddie should be comended for getting the big fights for his fighters, but in my opinion this is a bad move
Barker has been wasted in his last two fights , where he should have fought ranked guys he got bums instead and now they wanna send him to fight chavez

In fairness, the 1st fight Hope was a good opponent for a comeback, and offers were make to ranked guys for March 9th.

Barker is a very good technical fighter & if he fights JC jnr will no doubt outbox him for periods but potentially away from home in Mexico is a very tough ask.

Can Barker stop him?Not for me & should it go the distance would you really expect him to get the decision unless totally clearcut?

Would love to see Barker pull off the upset but think it will end up very similar in result to the Martinez fight late stoppage defeat.

Barker wont have to be as worried about Chavez as many of you are making him out to be. Id give him a decent chance of getting the win here, certainly he has the style and some of the tools to give Chavez a lot of trouble. Id pick Chavez, especially in Mexico but its no more than a 60/40 fight in his favour.

Can see Darren out boxing him but being broken down late, seems the general opinion in here too. Hope I'm wrong and when JCCjr rallies late, Darren bites down on his gummy and fights back and wins.

Why do you think so? I don't think his chin has gotten better, and that's all he did for 11 rounds, eat punches.

It's not so much his chin as other factors. He was probably 5 lbs heavier for the Sergio fight but the main reason I think he'd have been taken out is he doesn't get hit like he used to.
He doesn't throw anything until he's up close now is because he knows his limitations. He would get dinged left right and center when he used to try and box at range in the past and I'm not talking against world class fighters either!
He actually rides punches a bit now too and he wouldn't have had any world class experience if he had met Sergio instead of Zbik.

If Barker goes to Mexico ad gets robbed he almost comes back in a better position than if he were to win. Brits love nothing more than a loser that should have won.

Two top MWs going at it? what are people moaning about? this is the kind of fight the fans want to see.

This is perfect for both, Barker has a decent chance to win and will make a nice payday.

As for location, it is going down in Mexico or Texas, places where they can maximize the profits.

Barker’s last two fights have struggled in terms of ticket sales and TV viewers, Eddie is cashing him in – and rightly so.

    Barker is **** anyway.

I think you're right with your analysis on Chavez but I still don't see anything that Barker should be too worried about. Chavez will be outboxed early on and the only question is whether Barker can take it when Chavez does start to apply pressure and is landing body shots. Like I said earlier, the only decent stoppage on Chavez's record is against Andy Lee, who isn't as tough as Barker, and to further question Chavez's power, he failed to stop Zbik, who didn't see the final bell against Sturm, so I'm not sure whether Chavez has the power to finish Barker off. I think he'll have success but his size and strength probably won't be enough to get a stoppage.

The bigger issue for Barker is whether he can stop Chavez from overwhelming him. If a fighter stands and trades with Chavez, they'll have over 700 punches coming back at them for 12 rounds, so that's a tough fight to win. Barker needs to keep moving, constantly throw first and prevent Chavez being able to plant his feet and unload body shots. If he can do that, I think he has a good shot at winning.

It's an interesting fight, I think. Hopefully we get to see it.
