    I like this fight a lot. This is the one fight, without putting Barker in out of his depth w/ Golovkin/Martinez, where you're really going to find out if he has the physical strength, presence and confidence to compete at world level. You can have all the technical skill and talent in the world, and he is quite blessed in those departments, but its always been about more than that. There is and always has been a suspicion about him in those areas. On video you would say he is the more skilled, faster, throws more punches, has everything technically you'd want to outbox Chavez even if he's unlikely to hurt him. But Chavez basically trades on all the questions we have about Barker, so that makes this interesting.

    I want Ward to fight Chavez and beat the **** out of him. I think barker would get stopped in 8/9 rounds by Chavez. Size and strength too much of a factor.

    :lol::good

    Point stands that it's not Chavez - just whoever runs boxing in Texas is isn't doing a good job.

    In Boxing News today Barker's saying the fight would be at 164lbs. Would be stupid to take it at that weight but Barker seems to think Martinez showed the blueprint to be Jr and he'd be able to do the same :huh

    If Martinez can't seriously hurt Chavez then I don't see Barker doing so either really, the problem with this fight for Barker is the same for most of Chavez' opponents and it's the difference in strength and size.

    Barker tends to lean in a bit with his punches and boxes from the upright British stance and eventually I just see Chavez landing a hayemaker that could swing the fight in his direction. Probably later on when Barker gets tired and the strength and size starts to become a factor, for the first 5/6 round Barker will outbox him though. Hope I am wrong but that's how I see it going in my head. Although it's not an easy fight for Barker he may as well take it as he's already lost to Martinez and wants nothing to do with Golovkin so this is the next biggest fight for him really unless he can somehow get Geale in the ring, I'd fancy him against Geale.

    Yes 164 doesn't sound like a good thing or then again maybe it means Chavez will come in even more sluggish? The problem is that Martinez hits harder than Barker and dominated until almost coming a cropper at the end. An argument was made earlier in the thread or somewhere else that this may be a good time to catch Chavez as he may have peaked and is on the slide. But Chavez Jr never really had great potential from what I can remember just the name, and has mainly used this newly acquired bulk to tank through people. I can't see him having slipped enough for Barker to stop him anymore than Martinez could.

    Then again Barker is more othordox and maybe less likely to give Chavez the chances Martinez did as Martinez got a bit too flash. But does Barker have the power to discourage Chavez like Martinez did? Hmm there are pros to the fight but think the cons probably outweigh them. Or do they lol?! :huh:huh:huh:huh

    The more I think about the fight the more I seem to get swayed into thinking it might be a good one for Barker to take. But then if I had to pick which way it would probably go that's pretty much spot on how I'd see it if I had to put a few quid down.
