I agree with Eddie in a sense, Wilder could have made easy money fighting Whyte for 4 million and from a business perspective that would have been a good move because he is probably gunna fight Whyte down the line. However from a fan perspective this probably gunna the best HW match up on paper this year.

Difference between this fight and Aj vs Parker is, most people have AJ winning that fight comfortably, I cant see Parker beating AJ I could see, Ortiz beating Wilder.

Even Eddie views this a big test? If you dont agree, tell me why?

Ortiz is a big deal. He's comfortably better than the rest of Wilders resume and he can really bang. If Wilder wins this wide it will say quite a lot.

I agree with you, disagree a bit with Eddie. If Wilder wins hell have fully legitimized his status as the #2 in the division and biggest threat to AJ. While it won't make the money that Whyte would have, it's a stronger statement among insiders and that has $ value when it comes to negotiating a unification.

Agree. Of course Wilder is taking a huge risk here but still it's time for such an opponent. Wilder fought only one single Top 10 HW over the years (Stiverne I) and Whyte is prob the worst Top 10 HW right now (maybe Bellew even worse but i am not sure about that). This is a fight to lose a lot but to win even more. If Wilder wins this comfortably by a stoppage or a wide UD he should get big credits for this and is undoubtedly the #2 of the HWD. Ortiz is prob the best HW if we exclude Wilder, Joshua and Povetkin, maybe he is even better or at the same level so this is the HW fight of the year for sure although it is not comparabale with the paydays Joshua is fighting.

Should be like this more often. Boxing would be more exciting imo.

It is, but also long overdue.
Can you imagine if it took other beltholders almost a decade and 40 bouts to fight their first top5 opponent?
He could have taken another easy one and in case of Whyte for a lot more money as he earns here, but would we actually want that to happen?

This is Hearn taking a jab at Haymon.

He's basically saying Wilder's promoter is **** and he's getting massively underpaid for a fight of such caliber.

Wilder will make what Danny Garcia made against punch bag, tune up Brandon Rios.
    Think about it.

Yeah it's big risk for Wilder less so for his handler Haymon. This fight does a lot for Wilder's reputation though, so it might be worth the risk, while I think Ortiz is a bit overrated by some it's easily the toughest fight for him apart from Joshua and Povetkin.

Even if it back fires and he loses he'll likely get a rematch.

Ofc he is underpaid but there is a reason why Wilder won't have the big numbers on his side.

    1) no real amateur career / no promising talent at all before he turned pro
    2) fighting only one Top 10 fighter over the years, a couple of good wins for sure but Joshua turned pro 5 years after Wilder and already has a couple of Top 10 fighters in his resume (Parker, Wlad, Whyte, Breazeale)
    3) being arrogant and talking like he is talking is not giving him a fanbase like AJ has for example
    4) simply the wrong promoter behind him who is making bad decisions

But i in that case i think it is all about the rep he gets if he beats Ortiz comfortably. This is prob the first step to climb up the whole division in every aspect. Prob he has to go one step back to make two fowards in the near future.

But still....i think Ortiz wins this.

I feel you, this is exactly the type of fights the division needs to clear up the picture.

    1) he has a bronze medal at the Olympics.
    2) His promoter didn't want him to fight Ortiz he has already said that.
    3) He has dropped his demands but if he hasn't then I agree with you on him overpricing himself.
    4) Only fight one top 10 fighter is his fault but also the fault of Povetkin and WBC so he should have done this sooner.

Haymon is giving us a fight that we want, if this gamble pays off Wilder have a top name to bring to the table and some more fans.

Hearn doesn't live in the real world with his Femi cash cow milking 8 figure purses.

If that’s the case he should made AJ vs Wilder sooner, rather than that let it marinate bullocks.
