What do we make of it so far? Honestly, I was sucked in by his own hype and believed he could take over the states. American boxing was dormant before he went over. Now I don't think it could be going any worse for him with the money he's been given. He has no big American stars and his own biggest star got battered and lost all his belts. He's put on no 'mega' shows and apart from AJ/Ruiz 2, doesn't look like he has any other big matchups to make in America. He's also diluted his British content to rubbish while chasing the American dream. The irony is that he woke up the competition. He went over there like a disrespectful idiot, rubbed everyone up the wrong way and is now being frozen out by the other promoters. Being asked to sit out of the AJ/Wilder negotiations basically sums the whole adventure up. Am I being too harsh? I just expected a lot more. I hoped for a lot more. I am thankful though that he woke up the competition because I think boxing as a whole in America looks a lot healthier since Eddie went over.
Many of us warned a lot of casuals on here that his deluded venture would fail a long time ago. The likes of Shelly Finkel, Bob Arum and The Boss Of All Bosses Al Haymon are on a total different level to Eddie Hearn when it comes to promoting. He never stood a chance of making it in America, that's why his rubber faced old man didn't bother wasting his time even trying.
He had a ready made company with tons of connections in the UK with Matchroom. Different kettle in the US.
His card this weekend over there is decent, I would happily have the equivalent over here. However, it is hardly a card to be getting general sports fans excited and subscribing. Similar comment with the card in July in Texas. Ironically where he seems to have the casual market well supplied here with, his band of British level heavyweights, plus AJ and Whyte but fails to deliver any decent relevant fights (in the past 18 months). He seems to have the polar opposite in America.
He basically had the UK market sewn up but by spreading his resources too thin chasing the American dream, he could potentially lose both markets. Not that I'm bothered, he's a shyster.
It’s hard to examine from our shores. Only the yanks would be well placed to comment. I’ll still say that from the outside looking in it looks like a fantastic deal. It would be brilliant if we had something similar over here with all the content (the whole DAZN content not just matchroom boxing) for that price.
Same setup here I would definitely pay. Assuming he wouldn't use Matchroom France, Germany, Italy and Spain to support the UK cards
The big difference is he doesn't have a platform like Sky sports to heavily push the narrative and get people hooked.
Looks as though this weekend at the Donut centre. The top tier and one side the lower tier is shut as well and there are still quite a few tickets left. Think it holds 13,000. So would appear to be a fairly moderate ticket sales. I could easily be wrong on that. The Hooker card, the Texas venue holds 7,000 it seems they have barely sold a ticket. Can buy 9 tickets in a row essentially in all blocks. That suggests Matchroom USA aren't doing great. Obviously DAZN is different.
Like someone alluded to above, its because hasn't got Sky. He thought that because he's got a big mouth, he'd make Danny Jacobs into a star because he could tell America his "backstory". Danny Jacobs is just as popular now as he was when he wasn't with Hearn ie not very popular. He clearly has underestimated the role of Sky in his success over here in the UK. I could see it a mile off and have said this in several posts.
Lol do you remember how much of a Hearn fanboi frenzy the threads were about a year ago when the intention to go stateside was announced? It was peak MRFC. A few of us with actual real-life experience in business did indeed warn that he was treading on thin ice re Sky's patience and that he would be soundly outflanked by much more experienced Stateside promoters who he went out his way to personally insult and call liars, whiiiiich is exactly what has happened lol. Haymon, Finkel and Arum don't give a rats ass about cheeky Nandos bantz and "Koogz" belt-feeding hour long Hearn worshipping vids about "numbers". Sky isn't a thing over there and neither are Bazza's connections. I just hope that Hearn isn't on a crash and burn trajectory now re the UK scene and cashing out, which I somewhat suspect he is.
