He realised he couldn't attract any big names so came back to the UK with his tail between his legs. He done all he could in this situation and sign young talented fighters and the available fringe world level fighters. In all fairness, he has 3 world title champions and 1 unified world champion - which isn't horrendous but not excellent. His success all hinges on how good his current young signings are, if he ends up getting 7-10 World Champions out of his current crop plus a few more he will be doing well. Miles away from being a success but not a complete failure yet.
I still remember Hearn saying last year “We’re going to do 4 MEGA Events in 2019”. We’re going to sign Broner, Mikey Garcia, Wilder, Charlo Brothers, Spence, Thurman etc. His Fanboys kept saying every one of them would sign with Matchroom as they would get more money, despite none realising how the American Boxing Buisness really works. In terms of how the stated Commission purses are bogus and fighters get paid more on the side He ended up signing zero of his targets. He was left with American Bums he has to build up from scratch on a niche app. He said Showtime would be going out of buisness. Eddie Hearn is deluded about the US Market
And he was going to create new American stars. Hasn’t made much progress with home-grown Marchroom USA talent and nothing at all suggests that it’s on the horizon.
And Wilder and Fury too... Wilder v Fury would never have been made if all the sides involved weren’t unified in their hate for Hearn... Eddie Hearn has been giving Wilder free promotion ever since Late 2017.
Hardly surprising. You think Arum, Finkel, Haymon, DLH will let this British kid with a silver spoon in his mouth come and take over the USA! lol. No chance. Out of his depth. Fairplay to him trying but they literally sent him and his cash cow back to the UK with their tail between their legs. Joshua loss was devastating for his stock.
That whole night was a shocker. Katie Taylor fairly well beaten but gifted a result, then all bar one or his stars looked out of their league. The big Eddie SHOWCASE went pretty poorly
He’ll be alright as long as Joshua can beat Ruiz in a rematch and he’s got enough fighters in the middleweight region who can keep Canelo occupied. I’ve watched the majority of the DAZN broadcasts, and it’s pretty clear they are only interested in Joshua and Katie Taylor from the UK side of things. They weren’t bothered about Whyte v Chisora and aren’t showing the Rivas fight either at the minute. Obviously they’re keen on Andrade, Jacobs and to a lesser extent Callum Smith, but it does seem like it’s more because they are potential opponents for Alvarez than anything else.
It's hard to tell on this side of the Atlantic how he's doing in the states, the Dazn price seems like a very good deal, but he really needs to sign some marquee fighters to make a significant impact over there, but time will tell, would be interesting to see what his US stable looks like this time next year. From a UK perspective, the Sky cards this year have been poor and I can't see much improvement on the horizon, part of that is down to the number of retirements of big name fighters, part of is the UK stable is being used to bolster US cards. Callum Johnson is a fighter I'd happily watch on a Saturday night, but I'm not going to stay up into the morning to watch him. I admire Hearn's ambition, but I do feel he has spread himself a bit thin.
