    Thomas Hearns in my estimation.

He was smaller, but he knocked out quality fighters with one shot more often than the Jinx ever did. I mean, he sparked true granite in Duran and Cuevas, and his power kept up even through he was moving through the weights.

Michael had great power at Light Heavyweight, his one punch knockout of Johnson was something else, but his power did not carry up to Heavyweight.

    Hearns for me. P4P.

Hearns seemed to be more immediately explosive to me, as in his wins over Duran and Cuevas.

Spinks hit very hard too, but he usually worked to wear down his opponents a bit first before applying the sleeper.

Hearns knocked out Marvin Johnson with the Spinks Jinx. He didn't even put Qawi on the canvas.

 I know that, I got mixed up. I have both fights on DVD.

In any event, Hearns was the harder hitter, P4P. :good

Spinks blasted out Cooney and some other Heavyweight (Tangstad)....all who outweighed him 15+ lbs.

Except Tyson, no one stops Holmes....and of course his fight against prime Tyson was a mismatch.

I don't know about "granite", but at the time he was considered one of the most durable men in the game. Hearns ruined his chin.

Until Hearns, very definitely yes. Pipino never had the defensive skills of a Duran. Like the young Foreman, and Paul Fuji, his entire defense was his offense. His middle match with Angel Espada was a war. Randy Shields continually ripped his right to Pipino's head, to no effect. Randy wasn't noted for his power, but he was the only one aside from Duran to ever take out Lampkin. Harold Volbrecht hit him with everything but the kitchen sink for four rounds before Cuevas used a single hook to put him down and out. Jose also took everything Hearns had for five and a half minutes, then beat the count following two of the three most devastating right hands of Tommy's career, getting up at seven. As El Bujia said though, Hearns ruined his chin.

Would you rate his chin as a 8/10 or thereabouts, or do you truly feel it was an all time great chin up until the Hearn's bout?

I wouldnt call it ATG but he proved he could really take a licking.

Hearns, an ATG puncher with ridiculous physical advantages, just tee'd off on him for the entire 6 mins..fair dinkum about 8 rounds of punishment squeezed into that time against a bloke who did not have an ounce of defensive instinct.

On the topic...Spinks to me seemed like a fighter who put a hell of a lot into every punch, it was just his style and technique.

Hearns "in general play" would sometimes sacrifice power to let go with some rapid fire combos or very quick counter..then when he put more sting behind a shot it was devastating.

Just my opinion..They had different ways of going about their craft..I will still give Hearns an edge.
