:smoke Any of you seen that fight ? i remember that Andries got knocked down many times ....but what i want to know is if Hearns himself got knocked down in tha last round of that fight .....:think
From memory (over 20 years since I watched it !) ..... Hearns was knocked down shortly before the referee stopped it to save an exhausted and badly beaten Andries enduring any more. The referee however didn't call it as a knockdown.
It's hard to make out whether or not it was a legit knockdown. It looked like Andries just pushed Hearns down after throwing the left hook.
One of my favorite fights, if only for the initial right cross from Hearns. Good god, it was a picture perfect punch! All credit to Andries for getting up. Bizarre refereeing throughout...
I don't think that was a legit knock down. Good fight though, showing Hearns at his best. Though they should have gotten a better referee though
In round 6 IIRC. Beautiful punch, right on the money. As for Andries going down so many times Steward stated that this was partly due to the fact that Andries had appalling balance at the time as he stood far too square on.
I remember well, great fight for Hearns especially at Lt Heavyweight. And the right hand was devastateing, with many knockdowns.. One humorous moment I remember was the interview with Andres after the fight :yep when the announcer asked him if he (Hearns) hits hard at light heavyweight, and Andres replied "yeah I think he do". It had more to do with his accent than all the knockdowns he suffered against Hearns, but it was still humorous.
