Hearns was greater than Marciano. Fought the best guys ever! I think Hearns surprised us all and stop Marciano on cuts that is if Tommy was in shape.
For a guy that went 49-0-43KO's with Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, and Jersey Joe Walcott on his resume his abilities sure do get called into question a lot because he was 185Ilbs. Hearns was KO by Iran Barkely. You know what Maricano hits like.
If you made him a natural 185'er, then he would be taller and longer. He'd also hit harder. Rock would be asleep by the 5th round. He wouldn't be nearly skilled enough to do anything with Hearns at that size.
I think we have a Hagler/Hearns type of fight. While Hearns peaked at light middleweight. He wasn't too bad in his older years fighting at middleweight to crusierweight. One thing that intrugres me anbut Hagler/Hearns is that when ever Steward spoke about the fight. H claimed that his charge Hearns was not physically 100% going in. Excuessses? Maybe, but who knows. Marciano never seemes to be in easy fights him self. I think Marciano wins in 6 rounds. Hearns will have his molments though.
The claim is because he walked into the dressing room and saw one of Hearn's entourage massaging Tommy's legs before the fight, guaranteeing they would tire easily ... it is a huge no no to do tis and you have to wonder what Thomas was thinking ... if you watch that fight you do see he had no legs by the second round ...
I bet you wouldn't have your legs under you if Marvin Hagler was bashing you in the head that often either. Also....I find it nuts that people would think that in a H2H matchup, that Rocky would win. He would get raped as badly as Duran.
John, What do you think modern fans don't see in Marciano when they watch the films that you saw in Marciano that made him such a great fighter? Also, Why do you think Marciano looked so abysmal in sparring, yet was a totally different fighter once in the ring?
Hearns apparently broke his right hand in the first round, ive never double checked it though. Tommy also said his power wasn't as effective when he went up in weight..yea ill take Marciano in6
He wasn't that skilled. He was simply in the right place at the right time. He benefitted from a very weak HW division. He was tough as nails, and that cross was ****in nasty. But that is all that was there. If you take the Hearns that raped Duran, or outboxed SRL for the majority of there fight, and he would have Rocky all over the place once he started throwing the straight right. That and he wouldn't get touched, thanx to his jab.
In this hypothetical matchup, Tommy would be taller and longer due to being naturally 185 pounds. How the **** would Rocky even get close to doing any damage?
