Interesting segment in Hearns boxing social interview where he takes out twitter and checks Michael Hunters follower count and uses that as a justification why they didnt resign him.

Isn't that Eddays job as his promoter the last 2+ years to build his profile?

Boxing fans would prefer to see Hunter than Ebbabie Bridges and Dave Allen regardless of twitter followers

Unfortunately its just how its always been
All be it thesee days monitored via a laptop

If people pay to watch a less talented person rather than the talented one, it says more about society than promoters

It’s exactly why Dave Allen keeps getting promo from matchroom. He’s many levels below Hunter yet has a social media following.

Matchroom must have an algorithm that indicates a limited fighter with a social media presence will translate to more PPVs than a talented one without a social media following.

I agree. Unfortunately Dave Allen is a bigger fighter to Hearn, than Hunter is as he is popular. From Hearns position I get it, as a boxing fan it's sad.

This is the only salient point. Yeah he doesn't have following, but it's supposed to be his job to build them

9.5k followers for a boxer of Hunter's talent is atrocious though, Nathan Gorman has 3x times that...

What happened to Danny Jacobs since being promoted by Hearn?

Eddie said he's going to be Danny's mouthpiece and he's going to tell his backstory to all of America and promote him properly etc etc. He's no more famous now under Hearn than he was before he signed for him.

Eddie's been at best, average in America as a promoter.

Matchroom could have quite easily have managed his account for him and grown his profile. I guess it was too much to expect a sports viewing provider like Sky to provide their platform for the very best fighters...instead, we get to see the fighters who can run a decent social media account.

I doubt it will be a big loss to Matchroom. Michael Hunter is a good boxer, but he will be found out soon enough. I thought he lost the Alexander Povetkin bout - scored a draw with the Russian having been robbed of a legitimate knockdown. Regardless of that, Michael Hunter could make a good account of himself and win some good bouts, but he's definitely not all he's cracked up to be by this forum.

Mad how people have different perspectives even though we watch the same thing. I felt the other way in that Hunter was denied a clear victory.

Well, I'm definitely no expert. I'm a semi-casual who only watches boxing, so there's a high degree of probability that I could be wrong...

I'm just putting my opinion out there for the fun of it. I think Oleksandr Usyk will do much better, though another tussle between the two of them would be competitive.

I really don't see what all of the fuss is about. He's good and not an easy opponent for anybody, but my feeling is that he's still ridiculously overhyped on this forum (and Oleksandr Usyk is ironically underrated, these days, regarding heavyweight), so we will soon find out. Let's see how well both do in the next 2 or 3 years. Both need a bit of time because they are definitely avoided.

I thought it was a draw or a close Povetkin win.
Surprised my how many thought Hunter was robbed.

Either way, it was dead close. And Povetkin's an old man. So, I wasn't exactly overawed by Hunter either.

Matchroom could supply him with pre-written tweets, but the way to build a genuine, valuable social following is to make good use of the platform and put something of yourself into it.

Michael is a good guy with a great story. He's a very talented boxer. He's not managed however to get people on board with his journey. As fans we can say that's not fair, that he's a lot better than some of the fighters above him in the earnings league, but this is a business ultimately and they're judged on how many tickets they shift, clicks and views they can generate etc.

It doesn't reflect well on the sport, but if you're not brutally despatching opponents, being a massive dick like BJS or Broner at least ensures you'll draw a following, even if half the people buy the ticket to watch you finally get what's coming.
