Since Hagler was slipping by the time of the SRL fight, does that version get beat by Hearns? I've heard that Marvin would always beat Tommy and it would just be a matter of time (what round). Or does this older version of Hagler succumb to the younger man?
I think it's possible. Hearns has the potential to knock most guys out,but it takes that perfectly timed punch and Hagler would require it..Ask Duran. We have to remember that Hearns fought Hagler with a broken right hand, and Hearns nearly stopped him on cuts. If Marvin could muster that determination on the night of the first fight, the fight would most likely go longer with Marvin chasing Tommy and eventually catching up with him and stopping him even though Hagler could fall from a punch.Realistically the only way I see Hearns beating Marvin is on cuts..and boxing. The Hagler that faced Leonard? Stopped on cuts most likely by Hearns . In some ways in that first shootout they had, there appeared to be two different boxers in there from the ones we knew... Would have loved a rematch..thanks Ray.
The Hagler who fought Ray would be much better for Hearns than the one in 1985. He was slower and rusty with only one fight in two years when he fought Ray. I think Tommy would land a better right on Marvin and swell him up and probably stop him by TKO in about 4 or 5. This is my guess. I don't think the Hagler who fought Ray could beat the 1985 Hearns. Marvin slipped a lot in those two years. Ray knew it.
