Hearns. The only question is "how?"

Hearns can touch Floyd from the outside, time him on the way in, and will land that big right on occasion.

I don't think it's an absolute whitewash, Mayweather's footwork will help him have a couple of moments. But he definitely pulls the all out four corners defense for the last half of the fight.

    Buckdacious:

Such a tough match up! Hearns was one of the greats, just pounding everyone. Mayweather is somewhat similar to SRL. SRL threw more combos but there very similar in style. Mayweather would have to get past the first couple of rounds to stand a chance. if he did that he would win by decision.

Yeah, Leonard and Mayweather were very similar. Except Leonard being much bigger, hitting harder, having an iron chin that was never dented until he was pretty much shot, (Leonard would have eaten up shots by Judah and likely by Mosely as well, especially a 40 year old Mosely) throwing in combinations much more, as you pointed out, being a generally more aggressive fighter and being more effective as an aggressor, and having complete different stances and tactics when fighting on defense.

But other than that, they were very similar.

    Hearns by KO!

    he would give Floyd Hell!!!

not that they ever would have fought had they both been in their prime at the same time! Floyd would have ducked him of course!

SRR and SRL (obviously) are literally the only two welterweights ever that I would favor over Hearns.

Floyd CATCHWeahter will want a catchweight of 143lbs in order to fight Hearns.

Terrible matchup for Mayweather. Hearns would control the fight with his jab and win a UD. Hearns was an excellent boxer, and that is what would carry him to victory. Not his punching power.

    Just IMO.

People saying a guy who has never been knocked down as a pro, and will get KO'd quickly by Hearns are idiots. And I'm a big Hearns fan.

Mayweather is a blown up welterweight who started his career at 130 pounds. He is fighting a huge welterweight who would destroy him.

His defense would keep him in the fight. Nobody would "destroy" Mayweather around his active weights. That's just a ridiculous comment.

Hearns would win by "boxing" and utilizing his jab. Hearns best punch is the right hand, which would have trouble finding the mark. The jab would be the key and why he would win a UD.

A smaller fighter would need to swarm Hearns like Leonard did.

Leonard offered lots of lateral movement and picked his spots to swarm on the inside.
On the inside is where Leonard would stun Hearns.

Hearns could be hurt at any weight, but I dont think Mayweather would have the balls to to take a few of Hearns' right hands and risk getting hit by Hearns Power.

Dont believe Mayweather has the chin Leonard had either.

Hearns by the most comfortable decision, 117-111 type!

The fact is if Mayweather fought in Hearns era, he'd find away to stay away from Hearns weight class!
    This is elementary! :yep

over 15 (because of his stamina issues) but over 12 I cannot think of a fighter I would choose over him at 147 or 154 . . . maybe a Prime Body Snatcher.:bbb

Mayweather avoids a prime Hearns like the plague. 30 mill and time machine couldn't put this fight together.

Look if this was a poll with FMJ verses say JCC, Duran, Whitaker, Pryor, Armstrong, Camacho, Cervantes etc., you know guys that were closer to his actual size somewhere around lightweight or slightly less than it would warrant a serious consideration.

FMJ vs SRL, SRR, Hearns, Hagler are ridiculous comparisons due strictly to size. Just because smaller guys stepped up ala Duran and got there assed kicked by bigger guys doesn't mean ever little guy needs to get blown out to make there detractors pleased.

Besides amongst the LW's listed I'm sure a few would give FMJ all he could handle

All that aside I voted for Hearns to KO Mayweather in a bad way. If Prime Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, and Pac were to be avoided what makes anyone think Hearns would have been anywhere on the radar.
