When you say older more experienced Hearns are you including Tommy`s light heavy win v Andries because he was sharper in that fight than the Hill fight and his body still had definition, I feel he would stand a good chance of knocking Conn out when he was 27 because of his hand speed and reach, his jab would have been a big problem for Conn, his jab also would have been a problem when he was in his early 30`s because against Hill when he jabbed he had his gloves up and was harder to counter, I feel it would be like the first fight with with SRL at welter, I feel it would be close.
Conn was 174 for Louis, so it's not like he bulked up. So I think it's safe to say that he handles Hearns pretty well
Hitman at LHW defeated a durable but limited Andries and a one armed Hill. The Pittsburgh Kid was crafty , speedy and had more than one gear. The Kid on pts.
Conn & Hearns are about the same height, at 6'-1", but Hearns has a 6" reach with 78". Conn would have to box carefully, and get inside like he did against Louis. This content is protected
I believe his actual weight was 168lbs and that Mike Jacobs was being " creative" announcing him at 174lbs. I pick Billy by dec.
Conn,...slick...tough...crafty....AND.....he almost beat Joe Louis in June 1941. Is Tommy almost beating Joe Louis in 1941?...Nah!!! Billy on points...
No ,Tommy definitely ain't nearly beating Louis ,not in a billion years. Hearns bulking up to heavyweight and challenging Joe doesn't sound a good idea !
So Conn was actually a SMW. Hearns would be a piece of cake for Conn. And people thought I was crazy for thinking that RJJ could be competitive against Louis
Plus, Conn shared relevant attributes with Sugar Ray Leonard like similar style and foot and hand speed but in a light heavyweight package
I don`t think he`d take Tommy`s punch any better than Andries did so when you mention you must be saying Tommy couldn`t take a shot off a guy that big because middle weights like Barkley stopped Hearns, well bearing that in mind, Hearns with stronger legs took shots from Barkley in a toe to toe slug fest in their rematch, so you must be saying Conn hit harder than Iran.
Did you know just before Tyson was defeated by Douglas I read an article in the ring about Hearns wanting to fight Tyson?!
Leonard was faster than Conn because he was a welter, but having said that Hearns was a lot slower at LH.
Billy Conn had balls to spare...too many balls vs Louis, but don't think he was that bold and careless all the time. He would have moderated himself vs Hearns and would have beaten the Hit Man with room to spare.
