The worst thing possible for a puncher is to be coming forward full
bore and someone "time" you with a big punch....especially
if you have not the best chin.....ala Hearns vs Barkley.

A boxer who carries "thump" in his hands and is cool under
pressure is always tough to beat.

Hard not too. He looked so good.
Hearns woulda won at welter. Reach was a big advantages, as well as speed and power. Accuracy was pretty even though. But the reach would've been the deciding factor.

Curry's hand speed was on par with De La Hoya's imo which is very good.

Hearns wasn't coming forward full bore vs Barkley :huh

He just got caught by a punch he didn't see. Barkley is a big strong middleweight and Hearn's is past his best there both peak wise and weight wise. It's hard to imagine this scenario vs the much smaller Curry.

Curry has the weaker chin in this one truth be told. Hearns chin is far more proven. If we're talking latter career for Hearns then we need point out Curry getting sparked by a single hook vs McCallum, who was certainly no one punch KO artist. Did you see the Hwang right hand Duo spoke of?

Yeah, I saw it up close & personal ( as Cosell would say).

I drove over to Ft. Worth for the fight.

    Poor Donald.

Great stuff mate. Granted he beat Hwang easy tho. I felt a lot more sorry for him after the McCallum left hook.

JT, have you noticed that boxwreck.com makes no mention of Donald's first career knockdown on either his record or Hwang's? (Typical boxwreck errata.) In light of what later happened to the Cobra, this is not an insignificant omission, at least to my way of thinking.

Don did outpoint Hwang handily (withstanding some nasty low blows along the way), but I thought the South Korean acquitted himself fairly well, showing decent defensive skills and conditioning, to go along with his punching power and physical strength. I found myself wondering what Hwang might have accomplished with any kind of decent jab. (I remember him continually leading with his hook.)

I just watched the Hwang KD of Curry again on the weekend. It was a good KD and Curry was staggered for a while. Incredible that it isn't on boxrec mate, christ lol

Curry at his peak was the best in the world. You see how he was taking Mccallum apart before getting knocked out?And that wasn't Curry even close to his best.

It looked like Curry could be the best. Hindsight shows he was not.

hearns is all wrong for curry. Hearns would finish off curry at 147lb early. Curry would have horrible fits with hearns jab and superior physical tools and once hearns connects with that right its all over

He was not, was he? There was an argument to be made he was the best, but there was no majority that thought he was; and then he blew the Honeyghan fight and some of us tried to forget that we ever thought he may of been able to beat Hagler.

It was between hm and Hagler.

People are funny when someone falls from grace.

    400-4 as an ameteur.

    Undisputed Welterweight champ

Jr.Middleweight Champ(Beat Rosi who was giving everyone a hard time)

Hell for 5 rounds Curry was picking Mccallum apart until getting knocked out.

Watch Curry vs Aquino.I've never seen a fight in which a boxer is up and down. One round Curry looks like his old self-the next round Curry looks shot.

Mix in Curry's habit(drugs)and that is the reason for his swift decline.
