Well we don't have to limit it to the Roldan fight as such. Pick a middle weight fight with Tommy against Lamotta, could any version of Hearns at that weight do better effectively?
Fergy, I've just went through your internet history and it reads as follows: - Mike Tyson: The fallen Champ documentary - Mike Tyson Beyond the Glory documentary - a lesson on intimidation from Mike Tyson - Mike Tyson vs a Silverback Gorilla - Mike Tyson on Joe Rogan - Teddy Atlas talks about Tyson to Joe Rogan - Tris Dixon interview with Steve Lott - Mike Tyson on Oprah Very sad mate. There's more boxers than Tyson, you know?!
I's there samba? Way you bang on about him, im not to sure.. There's something there, about Tyson that really riles you about him isn't there? Former lover that resemble him, kicked you in to touch maybe...?
The odd thing is if Tommy hurt his right hand in the early rounds in this fight, he might win the fight by decision. Tommy could have beaten anyone if he used his jab and boxed and not gone tops trying to stop the guy. He could hit anyone. He was that quick, but he would also go for broke and get tired trying to score a spectacular KO. So Jake Lamotta or anyone. Tommy was at his best when he sat back and used the jab and waited for the counter. Then he would beat Lamotta by late TKO or Decision. But if Tommy went for broke Lamotta would come on and stop him late.
I think it says a lot that LaMotta beat Bob Satterfield (one of the hardest punchers of his day) by way of knockout in round seven; not so much about Jake's punching power but his resilience to punishment, i.e Hearn's devastating right cross.
LaMotta would break Hearns in half to the body. Jake was a vicious body puncher. A physical fighter who forced openings knowing/relying at times on his iron chin. It's a not a recipe for Tommy Hearns. He's all wrong.
I think Hearns could out box him, but it would be a tough fight and he would sustain some body punching.
The Hearns of the Shuler fight would have the best chance. What I liked about Tommy in that fight was the ripping hooks, left and right, to the body that softened up his man and brought down the hands of Shuler to allow the KO blow to the jaw. Like the first Barkley fight but more focused and tighter. If LaMotta gets through that then Heans can get the UD, but he has to be very disciplined. If he goes for the KO again he will likely get stopped.
